Meg Pfeiffer popped up here and there in my Flyctory.com postings. On 23rd August 2024, the German singer-songwriter, who is currently living in Nashville, has been releasing a new album. This feels like a good opportunity to have a closer look to her music. Here is my review of Perspective.
Meg Pfeiffer – About The Artist
Meg Pfeiffer was born in the German Democratic Republic in 1983. As part of a student exchange, she stayed in Parker, Colorado, USA, for one year. Later, she studied musical science in Dresden. A 2009 released country-stlye cover of Lady Gaga’s Poker Face has been her only song making it to the single charts so far. This also boosted her album Bullrider, which peaked in the German Top 70. In fact this was already her third album, after two early works, which you cannot even on streaming platforms any more nowadays. She recently released quite a lot of music. Apart from three EPs shared between 2017 and 2022, she also published the albums Nope (2020) and Unsent (2022). She also recorded several song with her husband, the Italian guitarist Luca Stricagnoli.
Meg Pfeiffer – Perspective – Track by Track
The thirteen song album lasts 49 minutes.
1. Woman of the Day
Four tracks of Perspective have already been shared before its release. The album kicks off with three of them. The opener is Woman Of The Day. The song is a very atmospheric pop song with a very modern, but also fine touch. This first song is definitely a nice appetizer to the thirteen remaining ones lying ahead.
2. The Richest
The Richest reminds me of some of the latest Taylor Swift songs. It is a modern pop track with a songwriter attitude and a good story. Even Meg’s voice is rather fine, but still nicely dominating the rhythmic melodic background with nice vocal lines. Pfeiffer also recently release an acoustic version of this track, which is definitely underrated with 7k streams on Spotify only.
3. Come With Me
The piano is leading the instrumental part of Come With Me. This leads to a very personal and intimate touch of the third song in Perspective. Despite the song is already some four minutes long, you somehow feel disappointed when it is over. A very fine and nice recording.
4. Permanent Address
The fourth song Permanent Address continues in the intimate piano songwriter style. However, the rhythm is a bit more present and adds a stronger pop touch to the track. Nice one.
5. Like a Rainbow
The waltz rhythm is not too typical for pop songs. Thus, Like a Rainbow is definitely a special song on this album. The flowing, melodic style of it reminds me of Kacey Musgraves. Quite a lot of big names of Music City mentioned in this review – but Meg Pfeiffer is still doing her very own style. This leads to very enjoyable listens.
6. Paradox Girl
With Paradox Girl, Meg Pfeiffer’s 2024 album is heading back into pop music. The song is presenting an enjoyable, happy melody, which is in line with the style of the remaining Perspective album.
7. Barbarian Woods
On her X / Twitter account, Meg Pfeiffer states that this one is a song from my fascination with Central Europe’s ancient history. She also explains that Barbarian is originally less evil than it might be used nowadays. Later she states I love crafting songs that leave room for imagination and tackle complex themes that can’t be condensed into 3 minutes. Sometimes, it is much easier to let the artist speak and describe their work. Lovely, very atmospheric listen.
8. I Wish I Knew
The eighth song of Perspectives is a lovely emotional ballad about troublesome new contacts. I wish I knew I was another substitute, just another gossip in the room. The song comes with a beautiful and excellent narrative style.
9. Organized Crime
In the ninth song, Meg Pfeiffer is comparing the music industry with Organized Crime. Or, as she states in the chorus, You can’t anything from me ’cause I have it in my mind. Again, this pop track is leaving a strong mark while listening.
10. Dear Therapist
The range of songs and topics on Perspective is impressing. This one is taking a trip to the darker moods and thoughts of life. The atmosphere of the song is according to that. Nonetheless, the pop style of some sections is still adding some ease to the song. Thus, it is finally not as depressing and dark as it could be.
11. Hot-Air Balloon
Hot Air Balloon has been the last single release before the album. Sometimes you just want to fly away from negative vibes and hates. The result is this fine song with a dreaming melody.
12. Last Summer Kiss
After some deeper and darker tracks, it is time to feel some summer vibes and have some fun – that’s about the mission of Last Summer Kiss on Perspectives. Time to have an almost three minute long dance with the German artist.
13. Gone
With 04:44 minutes, the chucker-out Gone is the longest song on Meg Pfeiffer’s 2024 album. However, this last song is not a loud kick-ass, but another fine melody, which starts with the artist’s voice accompanied by the piano and later develops to a nice folk-pop song. Good plot, good song – I like it.
