As I didn’t feel like taking the night ICE train after my August 2024 trip to Dresden from Berlin to Cologne, I was looking for a hotel close to Berlin Main Station. Arriving on a Saturday evening there, I wanted to continue my trip home the following morning. A hotel which has always been on my bucket list is the ibis Berlin Hauptbahnhof (ibis Berlin Main Station), which is more or less right across the street. Here is my review of the hotel, which can truly be labeled as rail station hotel.

 

 

ibis Berlin Main Station – Location

The hotel is located right opposite the Northern entrance to Berlin Main Station, at the Invalidenstrasse. You more or less cross the taxi stand and the street, take a few steps to the right and are right at the hotel. The same area features some restaurants and other hotels. The station, which also allows stores to open on Sunday, offers all kinds of services necessary for travelers, including a grovery store. This is very handy.

There are a few bus lines connecting to Berlin Main Station. Obviously, the station itself, which features any kind of connection, from local trains to international ones (like the Berlin-Warsaw Express I already reviewed), is a nice perk if you want to explore the German capital or want to travel on. Especially the S-Bahn commuter rails may be helpful to get around in Berlin.

 

ibis Berlin Main Station – Room

I had one night at the ibis Berlin Main Station, from Saturday to Sunday in late August 2024. I prepaid the standard room, which was at a non-refundable rate of 117.90 EUR, non-refundable. The booking was rather late notice, I partially used my Accor points for payment. My Accor Gold status granted me an upgrade to one of their My Way rooms, which are individually designed by members of the staff. The room was designed after Life in Balance and located on the top floor. One of the key perks of the room was its much larger size than an average ibis room, even featuring a sofa at one end of the room. I also liked the large work desk. Nonetheless, the room does not deny that you are in an ibis – which I really liked.

The shower bathroom was located in the opposite corner of the room. It comes with a typical ibis Hotel design and amenities. This includes a combines soap/shower gel/shampoo dispenser. The room was absolutely nicely serviced. The room was absolutely clean.

 

ibis Berlin Main Station – Breakfast

Breakfast at the ibis Berlin Main Station starts at 6:30. This is convenient, but may be even a bit of late in case you have an early train connection. The breakfast buffet was quite in range with the expectation. There were some nice perks you do not expect at that brand typically, like a waffle machine. Thus, the morning performance of the Accor Hotel was absolutely pleasing.

 

ibis Berlin Main Station- Service

The staff was very nice and helpful. As said, I had paid part of my stay by points and prepaid the remaining amount, which was something less than 40 Euro. However, at check-in, I had been charged this remaining amount again. Just when I arrived in the room, the receptionist called me and asked me if I came down to correct that. The handling was very accurate and I very often mix up whether I prepaid a hotel or not as well. Thus, there is no issue with that. The hotel WiFi worked very well and helped me a lot. Furthermore, the hotel si offering an interesting service: the collaborate with a bike rental, so that you can ride an ibis-branded bike (for a fee) if you want to explore Berlin.

 

ibis Berlin Main Station – My View

I was very pleased with my stay in this Accor hotel. The distance to Berlin main station is very short, the staff was great and I really liked my room. The location is also idea to explore Berlin and surroundings. There is a bit of partying around the hotel, but even though I heard that a bit from my room, it finally did not bother me.
