Flyctory.com Pros

  • Lovely storytelling
  • Versatile songs with a strong autobiographic feeling
  • Very fluent, catching listen

In March 2000, the band Raemonn released their single Supergirl. Especially in German speaking countries, this lead to five successful albums, before the band broke up. The lead singer of the band was the Irish artist Rae Garvey – who by the way married his personal supergirl. After having released six albums as a solo artist, Garvey is looking back to his life in Ireland and his steps into music business. Before I Met Supergirl is an autobiography, which also comes with a soundtrack. I am having a listen to the album. Both are released on 31st October 2025.

Rea Garvey – About The Artist

Raymond Michael Rea Garvey is an Irish singer and guitarist, who was born on 3rd May 1973 in Tralee. He moved to Germany in 1998. In the newspaper, he was looking for bandmates. This lead to the founding of Raemonn, which was active from 1999 to 2012. Just the year after the band has been formed, they had their biggest song, Supergirl, which peaked fourth in the German, Austrian and Dutch charts. Even though the albums of the band were very successful, no later song song release could connect to that.

In 2011, Garvey released his solo debut album Can’t Stand the Silence. I received a platinum record in Germany, the title track was a platinum record in Austria as well. Before I Met Supergirl is Garvey’s seventh solo record release. In Germany, no Rea Garvey album has peaked worse than seventh place in the album charts. He is also part of other projects and collaborations. One of them is having several appearances as one of the coaches at The Voice of Germany.

Rea Garvey – Before I Met Supergirl – Track by Track

The fourteen track album lasts 47 minutes.

1. Take This Heart

The opener Take This Heart is the only song which has been released before the book and soundtrack. The song has a typical singer-songwriter style, coming with happy Irish folk vibes. Especially in the darker season, the heartwarming vibes are very welcome. The song stays in your mind.

2. Kids In Love

In the second song, Garvey reflects about Kids in Love. The song is having a rather thoughtful, a bit of melancholic mood. We were just kids in love flying high above the city lights – the song feels to nicely reflects early chapters of his autobiography.

3. Irish Eyes

The song reflects all the love feeling when I look in your Irish eyes. The song has a nice emotional touch, but the rhythmic pop style also gives some motivation to make yourself move and dance. A song which works out in so many different situations – that’s the magic of Rea Garvey and his songwriting.

4. Girl You’re Going To Get It All

The pop-ish strumming guitar style continues with Girl You’re Going To Get It All. The song also comes with some slight sprinkles of rock music. Overall, the chorus is very present. This turns the fourth track to one of the most catching elements of this album.

5. Hell Or High Water

Regardless, of Hell or High Water, Rea Garvey promises that I’ve got you on my shoulder. Or I’ll be the one you can count on, as he states in the second stanza. The song is a beautiful musical promise to support and be there in the bad situations in life. Regardless what is happening. A great listen with a strong message.

6. Mercy

After the energetic and rather loud songs before, it is now just Rea Garvey and his piano. At least until the chorus of Mercy is incepting. The vocals of the stanzas are almost narrative. This strengthens the role and importance of the lyrics. Somehow, it feels needless to say that it is absolutely catching and fascinating listening to Rea Garvey in this song.

7. Not Afraid

You know with you, I’m not afraid of… The Before I Met Supergirl is full of love and emotions. This rather modern-style pop track does not change that. And it is simply enjoyable listening to the Irish artist, who is that much respected and loved in Germany nowadays. Songs like this one underline why we love him.

8. Come Home

The second half of the album starts with Come Home. The song calms down the listener again, the focus is on Rea Garvey’s voice and his storytelling. The song simply makes you listen to the artist for 3:17 minutes. You will have a great time during the listen.

9. Names On The Wall

You are feeling like a ballad? Names On The Wall is delivering that. It is looking back to youth times, memories, friends. Thus, there is a melancholic style in it. But there are so many moments you will be able to relate to during the listen. Even though now we’re just memories, now we’re just names on the wall.

10. Candlelight – 2025 Remastered

Most of the songs on the Before I Met Supergirl soundtrack are new tracks. However, Garvey presents two remastered versions on his album as well. The first one is Candlelight, which he originally released on his 2014 Pride album. The song works beautifully as a folk-pop track which makes you move to its vibe, smile and enjoy.

11. Sorry Days – 2025 Remastered

The 2012 album Can’t Stand The Silence – The Encore featured the song Sorry Days. The 2025 version is close to the original, feels slightly more energetic. The power of the song is thus even increased – as well as its emotional component.

12. Letter To My Sister

Letter To My Sister surprises with a jazzy style opening. However, the song soon turns into a rocker with comparably dark atmosphere. The saxophone is one of the key instruments in here. Slightly banging your head is working out in here. Thus the song is indeed a very special part of his autobiographic album.

13. Head In My Hands

With 5:02 minutes, the penultimate song is a special one. Similar to the song before, the song feels to built up its aggressive mood steadily, finally leading to a rock track with a slight alternative touch. A good one.

14. My Irish Bonny Lass

With My Irish Bonny Lass, Rea Garvey closes his album with a traditional Scottish folk. The song is a beautiful love message to his home country, closing his life retrospective.

And one day I’ll return
To the green fields of Ireland
And my Irish bonny lass
Who waits for me

Rea Garvey – Before I Met Supergirl – My View

After listening to the soundtrack of his autobiography, I am even more curious about the in-fact book. It feels like the musical version of Before I Met Supergirl already tells you so much about Rea Garvey’s life that I would love to compare the stories I imagined during the listen with the ones the Irish artist in fact tells you in detail. The record is a beautiful versatile and wonderfully narrated listen. I love it.
