Anne Haigis (30th April 2025, Erftstadt)

On 30th April 2025, it was time for another show streamed by Muxx.tv. While I have been at the Song of my Life living room streaming concerts so far, I this time headed to Studio93, a studio and concert venue in Erftstadt near Cologne. The artist on stage was Anna Haigis – a very established artist in the Rheinland and domestic music scene. Susanne Back was on stage with Haigis as a second vocalist.

This posting comes with 391 major size pictures as part of the concert gallery.

Studio93 – About The Venue

Studio93 is a professional-style TV studio in Erftstadt near Cologne. Supported by Muxx.tv and the mastermind behind it, Martin Ernst, it is driven by junior volunteers. The driving, body, Szene93, is also doing youth theater, writing sessions and similar events. Their studio, called the Club, which can be used for concerts and live shows. It is located in the borough of Köttingen, close to the A1 and A61 motorway. There is a bus connection (bus 974 nearby), but especially for later evening events, you should rather go there by car.

Anne Haigis – About The Artists

Anne Haigis was born on 9th December 1955 in Rottweil, a city quite in the middle between Stuttgart and the Lake Constance region. Her music is defined by several genres. She grew in jazz and also went into folk, blues and rock music. Overall, Haigis released 17 studio albums. She toured worldwide and also took part of Johnny Cash tribute tours. Haigis is nowadays based in Bonn.

Susanne Back is a German artist and actress born in Mannheim. She tours with Haigis as well as a trio, formed by the two artists and pianist Stefanie Titus in 2023. She also worked in different movies, musicals and other musical collaborations.

Anne Haigis – The Show

The show started quite in time around 20:02 in the packed Club, which has an intimate atmosphere with some 40 people. Including an intermission, the show took until 22:20 roughly. Haigis started the show solo and a capella, before the guitar and Back joined in. The show showed a wide range of Haigis songs, like the second one performed, Kind der Sterne. She also talked a lot about the background and stories of the song. For example, before she performed Papa, a song she performed at a 1996 Trude Herr revue, she told about how she moved to Cologne and settled in the Rhineland in 1988. The song, by the way, is a German version of Phil Collins’ Against All Odds.

Just briefly later, Back and Haigis told how they met at a New Year’s Eve show in Mannheim and decided to do music together. This lead to funny moments like their version of Mir im Süden, originally by Füenf. However, there were also very deep moments like Whiskey, a song about a soldier coming back from war, finding out that his wife started another relationship and family. The first part of the show took some 45 minutes, followed by a 30 minute intermission, which was likely a bit longer than planned.

Trio on Stage in the Second Half

After the intermission, Back and Haigis were followed by Back’s dog, who did not add too much on the musical side, but still entertained and welcomed the audience. The second half in Erftstadt started with Geheime Zeichen and Freundin, songs dealing about relationships. Haigis told about her relationship with jazz pianist Wolfgang Dauner, who also produced her first two albums. She broke up with him and dedicated the song Um Dich zu bewahr’n to him. The next song was the duo’s version of Adele’s Easy on Me. It was the first song they did together and the story how they recorded the music video was just hilarious. We just had a mobile phone, not five cameras like here, Haigis explained and explained that her initial ideas for the video worked out. Back stated after the song It is indeed fun being on stage with you.

One of the highlights of the evening was definitely the Eric Bogle song No Man’s Land, which Haigis originally recorded with Tony Carey and Eric Burdon. Thereafter, Haigis reminded of her two Song of my Life performances at Muxx.tv / Martin Ernst’s living room, which were in 2015 and 2022. She performed her best song of this format solo, Waltzing Maltida. Her original Carry On, performed as the duet again, was the last song of the regular set. However, Haigis and Back gave a three song encore, including her 1984 song Wer fragt nach mir, which is praising the ticket sales, bartenders, technicians and all the other people in the background who make concerts possible. Also referencing to the Song of my Life format, the second encore track was a country version of Heijnte’s Ich bau Dir ein Schloss, the first record Haidis ever bought. The show suitably closed with Gute Nacht (“Good Night”).

Anne Haigis – My View

Studio93 hosted a magical night. First of all, I was amazed by the well-organized evening and the very energetic and motivated young staff at the venue. Secondly, Haigis and Back impressed with a great range of music. There were many moments made to laugh – but at least as many ones which were deep and thoughtful. On top of that, the intimate atmosphere at the venue felt catching and striking. Will definitely try to be back there soon.
