For the final 2024 shows of the musical Rock of Ages, I had two different hotels in Zurich. I spent the first night at the Hotel Sternen Oerlikon, which I did have nights before in previous unihockey-pics.de days. I was really curious about how my experience about the hotel would be alike. Here is my review.

 

 

 

Hotel Sternen Oerlikon – Location

Oerlikon is a borough of Zurich. It is rather in the North of the city not too far from Zurich Airport (ZRH). There are good connections from Oerlikon Train Station, which is some ten minutes walk from the hotel. The area you pass along features many shops and restaurants. However, even the shops close to the station are typically closed on Sundays.

Not only the train station is providing excellent connections to and from the hotel. The Sternen Oerlikon tram stop features seven lines overall, on top of two bus lines and some night bus services. Walking distance from the hotel is some two minutes. Tram lines 10 and 12 also connect to the airport (even though using rail from the station might be more efficient).

 

Hotel Sternen Oerlikon – Room

I have booked a single room at the hotel. The flexible rate for one night, Saturday to Sunday, was 137.50 CHF, including breakfast. The room was in fact a double one for single occupancy. It had a nice size and was quite nicely in its design, so that I really liked it. The bedding was fine, the work desk also comes with a European power plug in addition to the Swiss ones all around the room. I absolutely loved that the room featured air conditioning, as it was rather warm outside.

The bathroom also had a compact, but smart design. The hotel explicitly states that they disinfect the shower curtain for every new guest. Soap, shower gel and shampoo are provided in dispensers. The work desk also had a bottle with tap water (which is absolutely fine to drink in Switzerland). Unfortunately, the bottle did not fit underneath the sink or any other spot in the room.

 

Hotel Sternen Oerlikon – Breakfast

Swiss hotel breakfast is typically not overwhelming in the range of items, but very good in quality. That’s also how I would describe the culinary start of the day at Hotel Sternen Oerlikon. Especially the cold cuts and Swiss cheese were really nice. They also had a few warm dishes, which are not featured in the pictures below.

The hotel also drives a restaurant and bar. However, this facility is closed on Saturdays.The breakfast room is separate from that.

 

Hotel Sternen Oerlikon – Service

The staff in the hotel was really friendly and helpful. The free WiFi at Hotel Sternen Oerlikon was working really well.

 

Hotel Sternen Oerlikon – My View

I had good memories about staying at Hotel Sternen Oerlikon in the past – and during my 2024 night, they absolutely served in line with that. The rooms and services are nice, the location is very convenient – but still sufficiently distant to have reasonable hotel prices. Thus, I overall really enjoyed my stay there.
