Happy times with Kyle Daniel: just after the country artist announced that he will be heading back to Germany supporting Lindsey Ell on her tour, he is releasing a new EP, Following the Rain. I was really curious, especially about the new tracks by the singer-songwriter with the characteristic voice. Release date of the EP has been 10th June 2022.

 

Kyle Daniel – About The Artist

Kyle Lewis Daniel was born on 11th September 1985 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA. His father was part of a bluegrass group, so that he was exposed to country music in early years. A broken leg stopped his ambitions as a drummer, so that he later founded the Kyle Daniel Band, which had quite some regional success. He steadily grew as a songwriter als well as a solo artist and released a self-titled EP in 2018. One year later, another EP, What’s There To Say has been released. Following the Rain is his third EP release. Kyle Daniel was a people’s favorite at the C2C 2020 in Berlin (here is a link to my favorite tracks of the festival).

The five track EP lasts 19 minutes.

1. Runnin’ from Me

Runnin’ from Me is not only the first song of the EP, but als also been the first single featured from Following the Rain. The opener comes with a nice groove. Ain’t Daniel’s voice amazing in this one? He feels like the Joe Cocker of country music to me in this one.

2. Everybody’s Talkin’

A great voice, a very catching melody and a lot of potential to sing along to this one – Everybody’s Talkin’ is just so much fun to listen to. The song has been a very good single release to me – and now, it is becoming one of the backbones of the EP.

3. Following the Rain

The title track is in the center position of the release. Kyle Daniel does not go for much more than his signature voice and some gentle strums on the acoustic. This leads to a magical atmosphere. Beautiful listen.

4. Me & My Old Man

After this quiet moment, Me & My Old Man is more energetic and present. Melodically, the song does not only tend towards country rock. To me, these 4:38 minutes however majorly strike with great lyrics, praising Kyle Daniel’s father. My favorite song of the EP.

5. Hollerin’ Hills

Hollerin’ Hills is known to Kyle Daniel fans already. The song has never been released as a single, but has been a B-Side to This American Dream in 2020. Again, Daniel rather goes for a limited instrumental set, but his voice create a very intense, dramatic atmosphere. Great closer.

Kyle Daniel – Following the Rain – My View

There is a bit of disappointment after five songs. I simply want more than 18:39 minutes. This guy is so amazing, the EP has five very good tracks. Following the Rain impressively illustrates that Kyle Daniel should receive much more attention than he is actually getting. We will party these track over here in good old Germany, when he is back in August. No doubt that this EP will lead to a Top Pick! rating.
