  • Packed place
  • Much more than living exhibits
  • Lovely staff

I was really curious about Albuquerque in New Mexico, when I visited the city in December 2025. A key factor was (obviously) the corresponding song by Weird Al Yankovic. However, the more I learned about the city, the more I it felt interesting to me. The first review I share from there is a rather unique place, the American International Rattlesnake Museum. Let’s have a look into the attraction.

American International Rattlesnake Museum – Location & Admission

The museum is located right in the heart of Albuquerque Old Town. As it is right across the street from a major (paid) car park, it is easy to get there. Alternatively, the bus stop Central @Rio Grande (lines 8, 66, 790) is just a few steps away as well.

The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday. Time are 11:30. Including tax, the adult admission during my visit was 9.65 USD.

American International Rattlesnake Museum – The Visit

Is the American International Rattlesnake Museum a zoo or a museum? The answer is somehow both. First of all, there are quite some living exhibits. You cannot only see rattlesnakes, but also other some other reptiles. The museum thereby also gives some information about the different species and their living condition.

The terrariums for the snakes and other animals are majorly integrated into the exhibition itself. Despite the building is not overwhelmingly large, it contains a vast range of items, dealing with rattlesnakes in culture, but also touching related topics like native Indian life. Thereby, it features educating, but also more entertaining items, which overall leads to a good leverage and leads to a very nice visit.

American International Rattlesnake Museum – Services

The staff at the cashier desk was very friendly. The packed museum also offers a souvenir store, which – again – features a lot of different items.

American International Rattlesnake Museum – My View

I really like places like the Rattlesnake Museum. The vast number of exhibits does lead to a nerdy touch – but that’s also what leads to a charming atmosphere. As you likely explore Old Town Albuquerque on your visit anyway, you should free a time slot of some 45 minutes.
