Flyctory.com Pros

  • Nice, energetic hard rock songs
  • Very versatile and entertaining album

After Buckcherry made it into my Songs of the Week twice this years, leading in the 21st March and in the 16th May 2025 edition, I was really curious about their new album. Road Like Thunder has been released on 13th June 2025. It is their eleventh studio album overall.

Buckcherry – About The Artists

Buckcherry is an US-American hard rock band. They have been formed in Anaheim in 1995. Between 2002 and 2005 the band went on a hiatus. Singer Josh Todd is the only Buckcherry member who has been part of the band the whole time. Guitarist Stevie D. joined the band in 2005. The other members are Kelly LeMieux (bass), Billy Rowe (guitars) and Francis Ruiz (drums).  Their debut album was a self-titled release in 1999, which received a golden record in the USA and Canada.

Their third album 15 (2005) is Buckcherry’s most successful release, leading to a double platinum record in the USA. Their most recent release is Vol. 10 (2023), which did not have remarkable chart placements. I also featured their ninth album Hellbound (2021).

Buckcherry – Roar Like Thunder – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 32 minutes.

1. Roar Like Thunder

In fact, there is a thunder sound right at the beginning of the album. Buckcherry rock the title track of their eleventh album as the opener – and it is a great welcome to the record. The hard rock anthem catches you with the first chorus latest. Nice riffs and a fast pace suck you into Roar Like Thunder, before you just have to sing along to the chorus. A very good one.

2. When The Sun Goes Down

While Roar Like Thunder already warmed he heart of classic hard rock lovers, When The Sun Goes Down stays in the 1980’s style of that genre. This time, Buckcherry sound more rough, cheeky and a bit of filthy. With 2:16 minutes, the track is relatively short – but it definitely leaves a mark.

3. Come On

Out of the three single releases of Roar Like Thunder so far, Come On is the only one, which hasn’t made it to the top of my respective Songs of the Week. The stadium rocker would have deserved it as well, though. There is a bit of AC/DC nostalgy in the air while you listen to this one. Definitely a fun listen.

4. Talkin’ Bout Sex

Looking at the title, Buckcherry feels to care about the really important topics in life now. The song does not spread the energy of the songs before. Apart from the lyrics, it feels a bit too brave to me.

5. Blackout

I’m in a blackout, somebody help me! I feel that Buckcherry don’t need too much help at this track. The song has this beautifully dirty and raunchy touch of a good rocker. Great riffs, a cool groove – these are lovely ingredients to a really nice listen.

6. I Go Boom

Francis Ruiz on the drums has his showcase in I Go Boom. Overall, the song has a very versatile profile. There are fast guitar chords in the bridge, clicking drums and even some brass sounds. And the title already suggests – this song is made to drive a good party when the US-Americans are on stage.

7. Set It Free

This song lead my 16th May 2025 Songs of the Week, so I already praised this track. I still love this rocker with some bluesy attitude. The nicely flowing pre-chorus the melodic chorus turn this one into a(nother) really enjoyable track of Roar Like Thunder

8. Hello Goodbye

Is this the (unavoidable) ballad on Road Like Thunder? At least it is as close as it gets to one on this album. Buckcherry manage this one easily as well. Josh Todd is even more in focus and does a good job. Especially the bridge is rocking a bit too hard to get the full level of romantic emotions, though.

9. Machine Gun

Dark blues hard rock – that’s how I would sum up Machine Gun in very few words. The groove of the song strikes, the chorus works out well. Not only due to the relative short duration of the songs on this album, Buckcherry care about that you don’t feel bored when listening to their album.

10. Let It Burn

A siren and stomping drums welcome you to the last track of Roar Like Thunder. Buckcherry wants to have fun with the listeners a final time – and they do great in that. A great speed and lovely instrumentals almost guarantee that fans will listen to that song during the next years when the band is on tour.

Buckcherry – Roar Like Thunder – My View

Listening to Roar Like Thunder is a lot of fun. Josh Todd and his bandmates know how to treat their listeners right and present ten mostly high energy tracks on their new album. I absolutely enjoyed listening to the album.
