In July 2023, I reviewed a very unique album making it to a full 5.0/5.0 rating on Flyctory.com. Germany’s pop icon Sasha released his first children pop album, Toto und der Mann im Mond (“Toto and the Man on the Moon”). The music album was accompanied by a children’s book and an audio book, for which Sasha’s wife Julia Röntgen was the key author. Obviously, I wasn’t the only one who loved the concept. Just some 16 months later, on 29th November 2024, there is the second part of the Toto stories. I again focus on the musical part and share my review of Toto und der Mann im Mond 2 – Aufbruch in neue Abenteuer.
Sasha – About The Artist
Sasha was born on 5th January 1972 as Sascha Schmitz in Soest. In 2015 he married Julia Röntgen and since then has the civil name Sascha Röntgen-Schmitz. On the musical side, Sasha was very successful in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, where he had three platinum records and two golden records in Germany online. In May 2024, I covered his This is my Time – Die Show concert in Düsseldorf, which gave a great and entertaining view on Sasha’s career. The show also featured some songs of Sasha’s rockabilly alter ego Dick Brave, with which the he was very successful as well. Out of ten Sasha studio albums released so far, only one did not make it into the German Top 10 album charts.
Sasha – Toto und der Mann im Mond 2 – Track by Track
The thirteen song album lasts 45 minutes.
1. Toto und der Mann im Mond
The album starts with the Toto main song, which is equivalent to the opener of the first album. Well-known, good song material.
2. Stern an Stern
Stern an Stern is a dreaming and thoughtful song about star constellations. Toto is watching the sky an thinks about the different signs on the sky. A beautiful, gentle song, which could also work out as a lullaby.
3. Bei uns im Meer
The third track Bei uns im Meer (roughly “At our sea”) spreads beach and ocean vibes. The maritime vibes make you want to dance and enjoy. The lyrics add a lovely ease. Just like a perfect day at the beach.
4. Zeig was du kannst
At least so far, the songs all come with a very different style. Zeig was du kannst (“Show what you can do”) comes with flavors of disco-pop and funk elements. Sasha definitely spreads positive and uplifting vibes in here. There is even a short hip hop section.
5. Wir rennen durch den Regenwald
According to the song title, “We are running through the Rainforest”. The song is based on Latin American rhythms and describes the different kind of animals and plants you pass on during the trip. Either on the melodic or on the lyric side, there is always something new happening while listening to this song.
6. Alles wird gut
So far, there were more or less only happy stories on the album. With Alles wird gut (“Everything is gonna be fine”), the song is in fact about visiting a hospital. Despite a serious injury and that you need a cast, the key message is positive. I like the way songs like that are arranged on the second Toto album – a very children-alike plot, which is not that simple so that it can also be consumed by adult.
7. Dino Time
Dinosaurs are a popular topic among the younger people – and Sasha invites them to a Dino Time. A groovy song, which is cool to sing-a-long with the German pop icon. I am sure this, rather more simple, track is a favorite among the young listeners.
8. Mondball
In the eighth track, Sasha and Toto are introducing us to a new (fictional) sports, Mondball (“The coolest sports in the universe”). The modern pop-style is a very groovy, catching song. I am definitely to play Mondball now as well – even though I might finally rather stick to floorball.
9. Dummdidadeldei
The folk–rock track might be very familiar to you. Together with Feuerschwanz and Saltatio Mortis, Sasha released a song with the same melody and not too different lyrics four years ago. In this second Toto und der Mann im Mond album, the song surprisingly mature. But it is a fun one.
10. Spielzeugtag
The tenth song of the album is groovy and funky again. Sasha describes how kids come together and share and exchange their. The song is a cool listen, which is nicely praising sharing and just having fun together.
11. Hol die Schlitten aus dem Keller
“Get the sleights out of the cellar” – it is winter time. There is also a snowball fight, it is winter and time to enjoy snow. The song has a nice, fast pace and a very rhythmic style. I really like this modern pop style track.
12. Mondscheinsohnate
It is slowly time to go to bed. “Moonshine, let’s be tired”. Towards the end of the album, it is time for the first very straight lullaby track, which is using strings and very gentle elements. Time to sleep, the party feels being over. Needless to say that Sasha does this kind of song in excellence as well.
13. Zeit ins Bett zu gehen
After the first lullaby track, it is “Time to go to bed”. Like in the first Toto album, this track (which is a duet with a child) is closing Toto und der Mann im Mond 2 – Aufbruch in neue Abenteuer. A beautiful and harmonic finale.
Sasha – Toto und der Mann im Mond 2 – Spotify
I will add the Spotify widget once the album has been published.
Sasha – Toto und der Mann im Mond 2 – My View
I have to say that I loved the first Toto und der Mann im Mond album even better. But Also this sequel is an absolute beauty with beautifully told, stories which are lovely for the young listeners but also fascinate elder ones. I am definitely happy that I had a listen again.
Favorite Song: Mondball
