Flyctory.com Pros

  • Very nice range of songs and ideas
  • Beautiful vocal harmonies

Vinyl Floor – that’s sounds like an outdated housing equipment of 1980’s architecture. However, in Denmark, this is also the name of a progressive rock band. On 27th February, they released their new album Balancing Act. I had a listen.

Vinyl Floor – About The Artists

Vinyl Floor is a Danish progressive rock band founded in 2007. They have already released five studio albums, starting with Do You Still Dream (2009). Their last full-length record was Funhouse Mirror in 2022. In fact, the band consists of two brothers. Thomas Charlie and Daniel Pedersen from Copenhagen. They typically do all the instruments on their own. For some songs, however, they use guest musicians.

Vinyl Floor – Balancing Act – Track by Track

The 13 song album lasts 46 minutes.

1. All this and More

The Danes begin their 2026 album with All this and More. The rock track has some folk touch in the stanzas, while the chorus also comes with some more synth elements. Thomas Charlie and Daniel both do the vocal part, which leads to some nice harmonies and a good flow. Overall, this leads to a promising first impression.

2. I ́m on the Upside

One of the three songs Vinyl Floor has released before the album is I’m on the Upside. The song has a very nice melody. On the one hand, there is a harmonic character, on the other side, there is also the summer feeling of a surf pop track. However, you also find a guitar solo part in it. Despite the song is “just” four minutes long, there are plenty of different elements in stock.

3. The Helping Hand

Wait, sweetheart, don´t even try to persuade those envious alligators
And don´t appear to them as a friend of mine, they´re always investigating
I believe you when you say you had it once
A part in every heart of everyone

With 2:50 minutes, The Helping Hand is one of the shortest songs of Balancing Act. It keeps the nostalgic touch, the gentle style is a bit of kitschy. Nonetheless, it is a nice listen, indeed.

4. Mr. Rubinstein

Not that rarely, progressive rock songs are quite a bit longer than mainstream music. With the five minute Mr. Rubinstein, Vinyl Floor has one of these recordings in stock as well. The song feels a bit more modern than the two tracks before. This still means you might dream back to the later 1970’s during the listen. The song comes with a nice plot and good storytelling. It definitely stays in your mind.

5. Tell the World it Happened

Short – long – short – the fifth song Tell The World it Happened is less than three minutes again. The piano played by Daniel Pedersen is a key instrument in this song. It strongly profits from the vocal harmonies of the two brothers. which leans towards a hymnic touch. However, especially in the middle of the song, there are also some slightly mental elements, which prevents the song from becoming a less interesting listen.

6. Land of the Desert

Land of the Desert is another song which is working well in the vocal as well as in the instrumental parts. And this song does have quite a bit of instrumental parts. Especially when the strings join in, this leads to some melancholy – but overall, the song is a great listen.

In the land of the desert when the morning comes
On a trail by the elders it´s a lonesome walk
Was I supposed to be biding time?
Recall the memories in your heart’s space

7. Back of my Hand

Back of my Hand features a more intense, Latin music style rhythm. The song is in fact an instrumental. The vocal parts don’t have lyrics, but add a lot of atmosphere. And, again, the strings are the striking element of the track.

8. Puppet Laureate

I got this true, imaginary friend and amazingly his saddest songs are all in major – that’s how Puppet Laureate is starting. The song is energetic, but also has a really nice ease and a playful melody. Overall, it got a lot in stock which makes me smile.

9. The Swan of Eileen Lake

The last song of Balancing Act, which has been shared before, is this one. Sara Maiken Andreasen, who is an additional vocalist in The Swan of Eileen Lake (and some other songs in here) makes the song turn into a fascinating duet. Just three minutes long – and thus in mainstream radio format, the song has got a lot in stock for a wide range of listeners.

10. Adelaide

If I would use a single word to describe the first part of Adelaide, I would name the song “pleasant”. It has a nice style, almost like a traditional song. However, the second part of the song contrasts and feels dramatic. In total, it is really well written and structured song.

11. Less Dystopian Book

But then I write a less dystopian book – that’s the promise given in the lyrics of the chorus of this song. Again, the brothers manage to show a lot of different themes and ideas within the very short time of three minutes. I love it.

12. Jacaranda Blossoms

Vinyl Floor were definitely not in a rush when they recorded Jaracanda Blossoms. The song is a true epic, lasting over seven minutes. It comes with different sections which have their own character. Nonetheless, the song has a very gentle flow and does not feel like artificially set up. Nice one.

13. Balancing Act

Yeah, the title track is still outstanding. It closes this album. It is the shortest one of the album. There is a bit of a psychedelic touch in this farewell, which overall leads to a rather dark farewell from the album.

Vinyl Floor – Balancing Act – My View

Balancing Act is a really nice album. Vinyl Floor present a nice range of ideas and different kinds of songs. If you like progressive rock, you will definitely enjoy it. Without being absolutely excellent, it is a very reliable listen.

Favorite Song: Less Dystopian Book
