Sanrio World Ginza (Pictured Story)

Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin – all these characters by the Japanese company Sanrio conquered the world. Especially Hello Kitty is leading to massive revenue in any kinds of merchandise. Of course, during our trip to Tokyo in September 2023, we ran into them again and again. After I have taken you to the branded theme park Sanrio Puroland already, this Pictured Story is even more commercial. In the Ginza district of Tokyo, Sanrio is driving one of their many stores. I take you there.

Sanrio World Ginza – Location & Transport

The shopping district Ginza is located South of Tokyo main station. The closest station, however, is Yurakucho, which is just a block North of the store. It serves the Yamamoto Line as well as the Keihin-Tohuku Line. The Ginza metro station South of Sanrio World is driven by Ginza LineHibiya Line, and Marunouchi Line. There is also a bus stop in front of the store.

Sanrio World Ginza opens daily, from 11:00 to 20:00.

Sanrio World Ginza – Lower Floor

You typically enter the mall from street level. That lower floor is featuring the posh items about Hello Kitty and her friends. There is posh clothing, and even jewelry, which easily reach your customs limit when you travel back home in a single item. Thus, this level illustrates how powerful the brand is, especially in Asia. Of course, if you have die-hard fans of the characters in your family, you might rather direct them to custom made luggage tags and less financially demanding items. There were also the typical Japanese vending machines and some other rather basic items on the lower floor (at least during my visit).

Sanrio World Ginza – Upper Floor

The upper level of Sanrio World Ginza feels different. In fact, the upper level is rather like two separate sections, which have quite a lot in common. The luxury – and thus: the price tags – are lower. Therefor, you find almost anything there. From clothing to kitchen items and greeting cards – if you want to spend your life with Sanrio and their characters exclusively, these stores give you a chance to do so. Foreign visitors might love the typical Asian presentation of the items. There are also some places where you can simply have fun, like taking a selfie in a virtual Sanrio landscape.
