Long distances, a lot of traffic and some very pricey hotel options – I am not the biggest fans of staying the the Greater Los Angeles area. Right before my wife and I went home after our Las Vegas New Year’s Eve 2023/24 trip, we needed to have one night somehow in proximity to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The typical airport hotels were rather pricey, so that we went for the DoubleTree by Hilton Los Angeles – Norwalk, which had a comparably reasonable price during the vacation season. Here is the review of our stay.

DoubleTree Los Angeles – Norwalk – Location

The hotel is located right next at the Interstage I-5 / Santa Ana Freeway. The insulation of the room was at most reasonable, though. You could indeed hear the traffic. There are a few services in close proximity, like restaurants and a cinema. You could use the Norwalk / Santa Fe Springs Transportation Center in order to connect to Metrolink connections. Finally, this is likely not that important for most visitors. You will likely arrive by car, the hotel is running a large parking lot. However, the parking fee is 15 USD per night. The hotel is also not that far away from Disneyland, which is a some 12 miles drive away.

DoubleTree Los Angeles – Norwalk – Room

We had one night in January 2024 at the Hilton Group hotel. We had booked a King Room at a semi-flex rate of 130.97 USD. Due to the Hilton Honors regulation in the USA, we did not receive free breakfast, but a 36 USD food & beverage credit. The room we got was really large and came in the typical Hampton-DoubleTree design. It also featured a fridge and a microwave oven, which are very useful for travelers. I also liked the large work desk. As typical at the standard Hilton furniture, the distribution of power outlets was fine. Together with the room size, it was a very convenient place to relax and prepare before the return flights to Germany.

The shower bathroom came in the characteristic design as well. I especially liked the wide space on both sides of the sink, which helped to store toiletries there. A feature with I rarely had in other places of that brand was the small, stand-up make up mirror. Like the whole room, the level of maintenance and cleanliness of the room was absolutely fine. In this section, I should again mention that you hear the traffic from the Interstate in the room, though.

DoubleTree Los Angeles – Norwalk – Breakfast

The hotel restaurant sold a breakfast buffet at a rate of 23 USD. Including taxes and tipping, the total invoice for the meal was 55.72 USD. Overall, the breakfast service was rather fine. The refilling of the buffet items was a bit on the slow side. Of course, you should not expect a too fancy selection of breakfast items in a DoubleTree, but we overall had a good start of the day.

DoubleTree Los Angeles – Norwalk – Service

The check-in was overall friendly. However, the receptionist was not really providing us with the information you need as a traveler. One consequence of that has been that I could not spot the gym the hotel is running. There is a nicely designed, typical North American size outdoor pool as well. The internet connection in the room was absolutely fine.

DoubleTree Los Angeles – Norwalk – My View

Yes, there were some service issues and the very convenient location came with some sound issues (which are unfortunately rather typical in North America). Nonetheless, I was really happy with our stay in that rather East part of Greater Los Angeles. Overall, the hotel definitely fulfilled our demands we had the night before we more or less just headed to the airport. Thus, it absolutely deserves a very solid rating.
