Country-rock made in Germany – there are not too many acts in my home country who are able to deliver that genre in a good quality. The more, I am always curious about new releases of that kind. On 23rd August 2024, Ray.An  released her new album Hey You!. A good opportunity to have another listen to the German country music scene.

 

Ray.An – About The Artist

Rqay.An is an artist from Weiden (Oberpfalz), East of Nuremberg and close to the German-Czech border. She initially released music as Andrea Marie, before she announced the transformation to Ray.An in August 2022.

 

Ray.An – Hey You! – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 33 minutes.

1. Having a good time

The first three songs of the album have already been released. Hey You! starts with a happy mood pop-rock track, just in line with the title of the opener. A good and catching melody turns this one into a very enjoyable listen.

2. Girls

It’s almost a year ago since this song has been released. A stadium rock alike anthem for the ladies, which is somehow simple. But, hey, that’s what makes the sing-a-long thing easier, doesn’t it? It is fun – and that’s why it also lead my 30th September 2024 Songs of the Week.

3. Hey You!

The 2023-released title track Hey You! is the first song, which also adds a touch of country to the rather rocking style of the album so far. The country groove adds a special touch – a really cool and energetic listen.

4. Telescope

The country vibes continue with the fourth song Telescope. Ray.An presents an uptempo, very rhythmic track here, which is based on traditional country music ingredients. Nonetheless, the song feels modern and very enjoyable.

5. Dancing

Ray.An asks us to do some Dancig in the fifth song. The song is rather for the more staid dancers, the country boots just have to move in a mid-tempo speed. The song is very melodic again, coming with a cool groove. Another really fun song.

6. Little fighters

With Little fighters, the album is heading back to the rock music direction. The powerful song reminds of the song Girls earlier on this album. Apart from the guitar, the song is driven by a nicely marching rhythm.

7. Nobody else

After partying and rocking, Ray.An is showing her emotional side in the seventh song. Just accompanied by the piano and a strumming acoustic guitar, Nobody else is a lovely ballad – a good rock music album just needs this kind of song as well.

8. Moment

Don’t be emotional for too long – Moment is a straight-forward party pop-rock song. It is your life, it is your day – Ray.An does not allow you to be lame on a perfect weekend during these 3:34 minutes. The song stays in your mind.

9. Yes!

With Yes!, the album Hey You also presents a lovely flowing and groovy pop song. However, the song also has some nice Americana elements and a lot of potential to dance and enjoy yourself. Something like a condensed version of the record in a little less than four minutes.

10. Missing you

Hey You closes with the melancholic piano Missing You. The song is about a loss and thus definitely the most emotional song of the whole set of tracks. A beautiful farewell.

From ballads to country tracks, from funny pop to rocking songs – Hey You! has something in stock for everyone. That’s the strength of the first album by Ray.An after her re-branding. It is fun and versatile – and this is why I like it!
