Flyctory.com Pros

  • Well produced and versatile songs
  • Personal and deep stories
  • Catching songs

One of the genres I don’t feature too frequently is rap. The German artist Montez grew in that genre and has already released six albums. The more recent ones have been very successful in his home country. On 4th July 2025, Montez releases the EP Sommerregen (“Summer Rain”). I had a listen.

Montez – About The Artist

Montez is a German rapper and pop musician. The Spanish roots artist, whose civil name is Luca Manuel Montesinos Gargallo, was born in Bielefeld on 7th April 1994. He release his first mixed tape in 2010, followed by his debut album Venedig one year later. With his fourth album, the 2022 release Herzinfucked, he made it to the German Top 10 for the first time. The single Auf & Ab (“Up And Down”) received platinum records in all major German-speaking markets. The following album Liebe In Gefahr (2023) topped the German charts and stayed in there for almost a year. His most recent major release, the 2024 Pass auf mein Herz auf peaked second in Germany and Austria.

Montez – Sommerregen – Track by Track

The seven track EP lasts 19 minutes.

1. 4 Life

The ease and simplicity of the stanzas of 4 Life rather remind me of a children’s song. The chorus is short, but leaves a mark. The ingredients to this song’s recipe feel rather basic, but the opener does create a good catch – that’s what good music is about.

2. Überfall

The EP’s single release Überfall has been streamed about five million times on Spotify only. The plot of the song comes with the typical Montez elements. The vocal part feels very relatable, the limited range spreads a slightly melancholic. However, the rhythm is straight at works as the heartbeat of tracks like this. The chorus is comparably short, just as the 2:25 minute song. Generation TikTok music – in a very well done manner.

3. Versöhnungssex

This song is about “Appeasement Sex”, based on the title. It is not only about how to physically heal a relationship, but about relationship struggle in general. The song has a rather “classic” structure – rap vocals in the stanzas and a groovy chorus, which is extremely present in these 2:19 minutes. I just cannot deny that this song works – it is one of the most catching of the album.

4. April

The 10th April 2025 single release has been the first single which has been released out of this EP. The lyrics are again about love and very relatable. The song itself feels a bit too sloppy to me. The predecessor track was much more present and catchy.

5. Im nächsten Leben

After three already released songs in a row, Sommerregen now features the unreleased song Im nächsten Leben. The rather slow song is about friendship and teenage memories. Even if ways part, there are these special people in your life. Montez is praising them in the fifth track of the EP. To me, this song is one of the most striking of the release.

6. Weinen

Ich kann wieder weinen, seitdem Du weg ist – “I can cry again, since you gone”. The song is about suppressed feelings, which break out after a fateful event. The song is also about stereotypes like that men should not cry. It starts in a rather melancholic style, but more and more develops towards a pop-ish melody. My favorite song out of the four already released one.

7. Wir tanzen den Regen weg

With 3:34 minutes, the chucker-out Wir tanzen den Regen weg (“We are dancing the rain away”) is also the longest song of Sommerregen. This song is not only somehow the hidden title track of the EP, but also its strongest moments. Energetic rap parts and a brass-driven chorus define this one and turn it into a really good song. I like it.

I will add the Spotify widget once the album has been published.

Montez – Sommerregen – My View

Montez’ music is not the style of songs typically represented in here. However, especially during Weinen and Wir tanzen den Regen weg at the end of Sommerregen, he really caught me. The songs feel personal, sometimes intimate and are also very thoughtful. Being far outside the targeted audience, I have to say that I really liked this EP.

Favorite Song: Wir tanzen den Regen weg
