The story of the rock band Terry Hoax is full of ups and downs. On 20th June 2025, they finally release their eighth studio album, Celebrate Nothing. I had a listen and share my view with you.

Terry Hoax – About The Artist

Terry Hoax is a German band from Hanover. They were active from 1988 to 1996 and released four studio albums in that era, before the re-formed in 2008. Especially their 1992 album Freedom Circus, which made it to the German Top 10, was successful. After the band has been reinstated, they released three additional studio album. The most recent one is Thrill!, which has been published in 2017. The band’s current lineup is Oliver Perau (vocals), Martin and Marcus Wichary (both guitars), Kai Schiering (bass) and Hachy Hachmeister (drums).

Terry Hoax – Celebrate Nothing – Track by Track

The twelve track album lasts 45 minutes.

1. Celebrating Nothing

Terry Hoax kick off their 2025 album right with the title track. The song has a nice melodic rock style, coming with a slight indie touch. Oliver Perau and his voice are nicely in focus of the listener. The song is brave and nice, but somehow also lacks a special feature to be really catching.

2. Shame on Me

The faster Shame on me feels to have a bit more in stock than the opener. Powerful riffs, some slightly melancholic parts and a melodic chorus – the song has more elements you can remember easily after listening. The strumming guitar parts in the stanzas lead to a nice drive.

3. Meanwhile

Fury and the Slaughterhouse and Scorpions – these are the rock bands most people likely think of first when it comes to Hanover. The single Meanwhile feels to spread very light Fury vibes initially, but then develops its very own style. The song defines an individual style, somewhere between indie, rock and pop. I feel it would be better when it was a bit more crisp and compact, though.

4. High into the Sky

After some electronic sound, High into the Sky presents a very different kind of song in the context of the album. The uptempo track is very rocking. The energetic listen suits the German rockers very well – I definitely enjoy listening to this sound. Hachy Hachmeister is also very active on the drum set and drives his colleagues through this rocking fastball.

5. Falling

The first, slow and strumming chords of Falling feel like pulling the emergency brake after the speedy adventure before. However, the single release gains some speed and turns into an enjoyable listen. Again, I would wish that the Northern Germans would put some more spice into this musical curry – the song as such is not a bad one at all.

6. The Last Call

We are just about to approach the middle of the album – and it’s already time for The Last Call? The song is a really nice rocker, the chorus goes into your mind quickly. The darker riffs here and there suit the song well, too. I like it.

7. Lose My Faith

With the 2:37 minute Lose my faithCelebrate Nothing has its shortest episode. The song is a short ballad, which definitely leaves a mark. The acoustic guitar and vocal driven track cares for the right emotional vibes of a rock music lover.

8. Screwed Without You

Feelings off, rock full power – Terry Hoax wake you up with the electric guitars right at the beginning of this one. The guitars almost overpower poor Perau on the microphone. I am nonetheless sure that the band will celebrate this one on tour.

9. Welcome to Tomorrow

Terry Hoax follow up with a Welcome to Tomorrow – and take five minutes for this one. The song also comes with some interesting instrumental twists, so that the longest listen of this album does not get boring. Especially in the second part they rock the listener comparably hard.

10. Better Now

If you seek for rock music emotions, you could at flag Better Now at least as a power ballad. The song feels very personal, deals with different kinds of struggle. Will you feel better now without me – the Germans do that breakup struggle song in a nice manner.

11. Circle of Desire

The last already released song of Celebrate Nothing is Circle of Desire. Terry Hoax again go for a very rocking sound, which is nicely driven by fast guitar and drum and work. I am sure that the song is even better on stage than as a home (or car) listen. It’s fun in my review setting already, indeed.

12. Don’t need Somebody

Don’t need Somebody is the speedy farewell of the album. However, the song also has some interesting slowdowns so that you can have a brief relax before you rock on. The ultimate track even spreads some Southern rock vibes.

Terry Hoax – Celebrate Nothing – My View

Celebrate Nothing won’t be on the list of the best albums of 2025. Terry Hoax underline their potential – here and there, I feel that they just not fully meet it. Nonetheless, their 2025 album is a good listen, a lovely friend for rock music lovers. I like it.
