the After Pixbo’s ladies match vs. Falun, Wallenstam Arena hosted another game of the Gothenburg floorball team. In the Men’s SSL, On 21st December 2024, Pixbo faced IBK Dalen from Umea. A very interesting match-up, also from a German perspective. The young national team player Jakob Heins played in his first full SSL season – and so far played a really interesting and good role in the team. Apart from his Swedish teammates, he was also honored before the match for his recent World Floorball Championships participation. Here is my match report.

Pixbo IBK – IBK Dalen – Match Report
The match started with a lot of physical presence from both sides. The rink crew had a lot of work in a dynamic match. In the first minutes, scoring opportunities were rather rare, but both teams more and more found strategies to break the opponent’s defense. Nonetheless, the first entry to the match report was by Dalen’s Jacob Mäkeläinen, who hit his opponent hard in front of the guests’ goal and was sent off for two minutes (13th). These kind of opportunities are crucial in the SSL. Felix Lanver converted the power play after about a minute, profiting from a precise pass across the rink by Oskar Weissbach. In the 17th minute, Pixbo raised the lead to 2-0, when Gustav Fritzell had a lovely snipe into the upper edge of Anton Grönlund’s goal. Pixbo was the slightly better team in a very fast and attractive first period and thus deserved that lead in the first intermission.
Hedlund in Focus at the End of the Second Period
The guests were very active in the first minutes of the second period. However, after Alexander Hedlund had closed up the score in the 22nd minute, Fabian Lindbäck raised the lead for Pixbo roughly one minute later profiting from a central position without defensive cover. However, Dalen felt to be in the game and could have profited from the first bench penalty for the Gothenburg team (Filip Kalentun, incorrect hit, 24th), but did not convert that opportunity. After that power play, both teams played very solid in defense, so that it took until the end of the second period to have some more match report action.
Marcus Peil received a tackle penalty in the 37th minute and Dalen turned the power play into their second score by Felix Forslund with some one minute left on the clock. A 3-2 score in the second intermission would have lead to a very close and interesting situation in the third period. However, with less than one minute left on the match clock, Oscar Hammarqvist gave a lovely pass to Gustav Fritzell, who hammered the ball into the net. Dalen was too vulnerable before the second fifteen minute break. With eight seconds left, it was majorly Pixbo’s goalie who cut Dalen’s heart with a lovely throw-out. He definitely deserved the assist for his team’s fifth goal – but as Lanver had tipped the ball to Arvid Äse, who converted the fast break, the Swedish national team goalie “just” got the love of his team mates, but no point in the match statistics.
Dalen gets closer… But does not make use of the Momentum
The first two entries in the match report for the third period went to Hammarqvist. After just 80 seconds, he raised the lead to four goals after a left wing attack. However, his second entry was a bench penalty after a hard attack close to the rink. Dalen was not fully settled for the power play, when the arms of the referees were up again. Linus Nestorsson had an incorrect hit in box play, so that Dalen had a two man advantage in the 44th minute for 1:29 minutes. That’s a chance you have to covert. Emil Wiklund’s goal after about one minute rather felt like an ordinary attack than a typical power play goal. Still in one man advantage, Anton Akerlund added the fourth goal for Dalen after a nice pass by Mattias Ljunggren just twenty seconds later. Thus, there were still fifteen minutes to go with Pixbo just leading by two goals.
However, Dalen could not use that mental advantage. After playing the first two periods in the second line the first two periods, Jakob Heins cheered for Arvid Äse’s goal in the 50th minute with his tracksuit top on. When Peil added the 8-4 just some two minutes later, the match felt being decided. However, Dalen got back again, when Wilmer Entall and Hedlund scored two goals within 32 seconds in the 57th minute. The guests had already pulled their goalie in that situation. However, Dalen could not get too many good scoring opportunities in the final minutes. In the last minute, Victor Johansson sealed Pixbo’s victory with the empty-netter for a final score of 9-6.

Pixbo IBK – IBK Dalen – My View of the Match
This Men SSL match was pretty intense. Here and there, the referees felt to risk loosing control on the temper of both teams. There was even a minor scuffle after the final siren. However, that also meant that the match was full of action and really nice to watch, even in the low scoring parts. Whenever Dalen was giving the hosts a challenge, Pixbo felt having the right answer and thus deserved to win their last match before Christmas.
