The Script have an impressing band statistic: in their domestic market Ireland, any album released so far topped the charts. If there was not one out of six long-plays so far (The album #3 “just placed second…), the same would apply for the United Kingdom. On 16th August 2024, the band released a new album, Satellites. I cannot predict their upcoming chart position, but at least whether I like the songs.
The Script – About The Artists
The Script have been founded on 2001 in Dublin. The original setup was a trio, which came with additional touring musicians. Founding lead guitarist Mark Sheehan, however, died in 2023. This lead to some restructuring in the band. Apart from the founding members Danny O’Donoghue (vocals, piano, rhythm guitar) and Glen Power (drums, percussion), the former touring bassist Benjamin Sargeant and lead guitarist Ben Weaver joined the band in 2024.
Allready the self-titled 2008 debut album of the band has been a huge success all over Europe. However, the album was also a Top 10 one in Australia, for example. With the – likely – band’s biggest hit, the 2012 Halll of Fame, latest, The Script got a huge group of followes globally. The song received platinum records in twelve major markets, including Australia where the song earned that merit ten times. Even though the success of their most recent release, the 2019 Sunsets & Full Moons felt to slightly fade compared to the previous albums, the pop rock band is still very popular in many markets.
The Script – Satellites – Track by Track
The twelve track album lasts 36 minutes
1. Both Ways
I just cannot state that I followed the story of the Irish band closely. Maybe due to that, Both Ways just does not remind me too much of The Script. The song is a fast pop track with dancing vibes and a modern touch. Maybe the Hall of Fame is just too intensively in my music heart. Whatever – the song is a fun listen.
2. Unsaid
Modern music becomes shorter and shorter. The attention span of listeners simply gets shorter. In that context, the 2:07 minutes Unsaid is a very modern song. However The Script manage to give a full message and story within that time frame – without feeling hectic or incomplete.
3. Home Is Where the Hurt Is
Oh, I always thought this proverb is a bit of different… 😉 The sound of the third song is much closer than I would The Script to sound nowadays. There is this intense, hymnic touch in Home Is Where the Hurt Is, which comes a slight melacholic touch as well. I like it.
4. At Your Feet
At Your Feet is not a ballad, but a slower mid-tempo song with a lovely emotional touch. The atmosphere of the song feels a bit of plushy, but somehow nice. And, undeniably, it comes with a beautiful flow.
5. Gone
With its 2:20 minutes, Gone is one of the more compact listens of the album. However, especially the nice melody of the chorus stays in your mind. Very nice work on the keyboard side.
6. Inside Out
A nice feature about Satellites is the versatility of the songs. The predecessor of Inside Out was nicely driven by the keyboard, now it is a rather tootling guitar, which has a nice blend of folk, summer feelings and blend. The key constant of the songs is the voice of singer Danny O’Donoghue – the same sound since more than two decades.
7. Satellites
The title track of the album is rather in the middle of the record. The song has a ballad-alike style and shows the Irish band from a very emotional side. The song is very intense, I enjoy listening to it.
8. One Thing I Got Right
The three minute good mood track One Thing I Got Right is one of my favorite on Satellite. You’re the one thing I got right– what a nice message. And it even comes with a modern, rhythmic and catching melody.
9. Falling Flying
The ninth song Falling Flying even has a touch of synth pop. I like the slight 1990’s nostalgia in the sound of this track.A bit of kitschy, but a song which makes you smile..
10. Before You Go
The tenth song is the one I struggle with the most on Satellites. The song as such is a nice one, but I some struggle with the very rhythm-centric arrangement of this track. .Just a matter of taste, the melody is a nice one and there is quite some energy in it.
11. Promises
The four boys from Ireland touch the hearts of their listeners again. What else would be suitable if you are singing about Promises? A touch of boy group music, but also heartwarming.
12. Run Run Run
The album closes with the funny and happy Run Run Run. The song comes with a dominant rhythm and dancing vibes. Quite a difference to the song before. But at least, The Script ensure that you close the listen with a smile.

The Script – Satellites – My View
Melancholy, love, fun pop, ballads, the album got it all – and the songs all are somehow nice to listen to. I would not necessarily see the album in the highest peaks of 2024 music, but it is a really nice one.
