It’s been more than 14 years ago since the fictional Canadian rockabilly artist Dick Brave released his last album. The success in German-speaking countries was huge (maybe because he is not that Canadian in fact…) – and thus, the rockabilly artist is back with a new album in 2026. Back For Good has been released on 23rd January 2026. Here is my review.

 

Dick Brave – About The Artist

Dick Brave is the rockabilly project of the German pop artist Sasha. I featured him multiple times on Flyctory.com already, including the two reviews of part 1 and part 2 of hier children music album Toto und der Mann im Mond. In 2024, I featured his This is my Time – Die Show in Dusseldorf. Sasha created the idea for his alter ego Dick Brave in 2002, when he did a show under that name for the first time. There is a fictional bio behind Dick Brave, who is named to be Canadian and also speaks German with a North American accent. Dick Brave and the Backbeats released two albums, Dick This! (2003) and Rock’n’Roll Therapy (2011). The debut album is a double platinum record and chart-topper in Germany.

 

Dick Brave – Back For Good – Track by Track

The album comes with 20 songs and has a total duration of 66 minutes.

1. Back for Good

The opener, the title track, and one of the previously released songs – Dick Brave kicks off his comeback album with the Take That classic. There is more speed, more rhythm – the song turns into swaying dance track. It has a nice touch, indeed.

2. I’m still standing

Another big artist is coming next. The track is definitely one of Elton John’s biggest ones. If ladies ever wore petticoats while listening to I’m still standing before? The way to bring this track into the Dick Brave

3. The winner Takes it all

So far, the covers on the album feel to speed up the original significantly. ABBA’s The Winner Takes It All starts rather slowly. However, the more, the band increases the speed in the second half. The fictional Canadian is a fast rockabilly guy.

4. I Can See Clearly Now

After this experience, you expect a similar plot in Dick Brave’s version of I Can See Clearly Now. However, this time, it stays a rather calm and slow track, there are even some country vibes in this version of the Johnny Nash classic.

5. Sex Bomb

The groove from the contrabass feels to fit perfectly to Sex Bomb. The second part of this cover version is a bit more virtuous and diverts from the original. This leaves a stronger character and is fun listening to.

6. What’s Love Got To do with it

Already with the first notes, Dick Brave sends out the message that this cover will be a fast and rhythmic one. The background singers turn Tina Turner’s song add a bit too much kitsch to this one. On the other hand, the instrumental parts of the song are excellent.

7. Enjoy the Silence

The Depeche Mode song as a slow piano ballad, which later adds more instruments? Dick Brave turns this one into reality in the seventh track of Back For Good. No acceleration in later parts of the song. To me, this one is one of the most fascinating listens of the album.

8. Man Eater

Dick Brave’s Man Eater / Maneater version is majorly based on the Nelly Furtado version released in 2006 and thus a bit more away from the Hall & Oates original. There is a lot of swing in this version, the bridge with additional vocal elements is cool. Overall, a really nice cover.

9. Ordinary World

The first notes of Ordinary World much rather sound like a traditional country track than a cover of the Duran Duran song. With the first words of the chorus, you have these 1980’s vibes in your eyes, which your ears listen to rockabilly sound. You might say that Dick Brave’s concept is a bit of simple – but he also proofs that it does actually work well.

10. Suspicious Minds

What would work better to the concept of Back for Good than an Elvis classic? The song feels nostalgic and is comparably close to the 1968 recording. An amazing original and a very nice version released almost sixty years later. 

11. Shake it Off

If you go for the physical version of the album, you just had to change the medium. The double CD / vinyl is kicking off its second one with Shake It Off. And this Taylor Swift original works so good when Dick Brave is interpreting it. I really like the original, but the Back for Good version is definitely absolutely fun.

12. Take on Me

I just returned from Norway this week – and here is one of the country’s most popular bands. During the first seconds of this one, you likely would not guess that this is going to be an A-Ha cover. But the version is playful and later also goes for a faster speed and stronger rhythm. Sasha (did I really say that? Dick, of course) makes you dance inevitably.

13. Beautiful Things

The only track already released from the second CD of the album is Beautful Things. Benson Boone had a chart-topping song in many markets with it rather recently, in 2004. Dick Brave presents it as a slow rockabilly ballad. It’s a great song – and so the cover works out easily.

14. Runaway

I love the original 1961 by Dan Shannon of this one. Dick Brave’s version is rather close to it. Even the higher notes work out well, while this version overall stays close to the original. I like it.

15. APT

Back for Good covers songs from a wide range of decades and songs. APT is a K-pop original, which became big in 2024 in the Rose feat. Bruno Mars version. The rockabilly version adds a very different view on the song. I feel it’s really cool in this arrangement.

16. Blinding Lights

Blinding Lights (by The Weeknd) has been one of the first big songs of the 2020’s. Apart from the rockabilly touch and a slight increase, the song is not that far away from the original. Sasha is driving the song very nicely.

17. Be the One

Back for Good features a couple of rather modern pop tracks in this part of the album. Here, it presents a Dua Lipa cover. The chorus works really well in here.

18. Bad Guy

Bad Guy was part o Billie Eilish’s debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?. The song spreads some darker rockabilly feelings, which makes the overall listen more interesting.

19. The A Team

I was so much hoping for the title track of the TV series when I read the tracklist first. However, I did not think about Ed Sheeran and his song in that moment. The cover version presents the song from a very different viewpoint. I really like these part of Back for Good, when the album and the artist are surprising me.

20. Billie Jean

The very last of the twenty songs is a cover of one of the best songs by Michael Jackson. I was really critical whether this cover could really work out – but also in the last song, Dick Brave gives the song a nice and interesting touch. I like it!

Dick Brave – Back For Good – My View

Of course, one can say that Back For Good is finally a cover album, which uses very similar ideas for each and every of the twenty track. However, I feel it is really fun listening to them. Dick Brave entertains the listener – and that’s what his music is all about. I am sure the new tracks will boost the upcoming concerts.
