After staying at the Conrad New York Midtown for two nights, my wife and I went for a more economic option and had a night Hilton Garden Inn New York / Central Park South – Midtown West (which is the full name… Quite long, ain’t it?). In fact, two two hotels are more or less just a block away from each other. Here are my thoughts about the one night stay.

HGI New York Central Park South – Location

The location of the Hilton Garden Inn is excellent. It is located on 54th Street and Broadway, just across the 7th Avenue from the Conrad New York Midtown I stayed for two nights before. Thus, you are just a short walk away from the theaters, but also Times Square, Madame Tussauds New York, Rockefeller Center, the Museum of Modern Art and many more key Manhattan attractions.

Parking fees (especially hotel parking fees) in Manhattan are ridiculous. Thus, the subway is the key mean of public transport. There are several stations in short walking distance. The closest one is 7 Ave Station (lines E, B, D), but you can also opt for 57 Street (N, Q, R, W) and 50 Street Station (1, 2).

HGI New York Central Park South – Room

My wife and I had one night in late October 2022, Sunday to Monday. We originally were on a semi-flex rate on a King Bed City View Room of 299.28 USD, but then later changed it to a non-refundable rate, which saved  us more than 100 USD. Coming from the Conrad Hotel Midtown, the room was quite a change. The room was rather small, the rather long corridor was quite handy to store luggage. However, the room design was quite efficient. Nonetheless, you could hardly pass a person sitting at the spacious work desk. The power outlet at the work desk has not been working, though.

The shower bathroom was in line with the sleeping room: compact with a rather efficient design. The pictures might suggest a rather narrow bathroom, but it was overall okay, without being too comfortable. The large board next to the sink helped a huge lot in that regard. While the sleeping area felt not to be perfectly clean, the bathroom was absolutely fine. Another issue with the room was that the elevator was comparably loud.

HGI New York Central Park South – Breakfast

The breakfast has been served as a buffet in the restaurant. Overall, the breakfast was fine, maybe a bit on the limited side. Thus, we felt it was okay for the one night stay. However, the breakfast might be a bit too limited for a longer stay at the HGI.

HGI New York Central Park South – Service

The check-in was friendly, but did not feel to be professional. For example, we haven’t been informed about breakfast times and I have not been greeted as a Hilton Honors Diamond member. The WiFi in the room was really weak, I had multiple issues with the connection speed and stability. The hotel does have a fitness center, which I did not explore.

HGI New York Central Park South – My View

The hotel as such might not be really a bummer. Housekeeping was not precise, breakfast is not sufficient for a smile, the rooms are compact and the desk had also quite some lacks of service. On the other hand, you get a just reliable hotel at an excellent location – and not too rarely, the price is really nice compared to other Manhattan locations. So if the price is right and you are exploring New York the whole day anyway, the Hilton Garden Inn New York/Central Park South is definitely a valid option.
