With five nights, my longest stay during the Tennis Hall of Fame Open 2024 in Newport, Rhode Island, was the Hampton Inn Fall River/Westport. The location felt quite reasonable, as the hotel prices in places closer to Newport felt rather massive. Furthermore, the hotel gave me the opportunity to redeem points and the frequent sleeper program of Hilton Hotels, Hilton Honors. Here is my review.
Hampton Inn Fall River/Westport – Location
The hotel is located on the Northern edge of Westport in Massachusetts There is a major restaurant in close walking distance to the hotel. For most other services, you do need a car. The nearby Fall River, for example, offers restaurants, gas stations and a Walmart Supercenter. The hotel is right next to the I-195 along the New England Coast. There are a couple of interstate exits around the hotel, all require a short drive to the hotel. Despite being next to the major and popular street, the hotel is rather quiet. It offers a large (complimentary) parking lot.
Hampton Inn Fall River/Westport – Room
I had five nights in the Hampton Inn Fall River/Westport. The five nights in a Standard Room were paid by points. A typical rate would have been around 160 to 200 USD at that time, if you booked early enough. The room came with a nice size and was equipped with fridge and microwave oven, which was very handy during my tennis work. I also liked having the more modern Hampton design including a nice work desk with sufficient power outlets, which I simply needed for nights of photographic and match report work. The walls of the hotel were rather thin, though, which was especially bothering during the first nights, where my neighbors had some intense discussions. However, this is rather a typical North American architecture thing.
The bathroom with shower had a good size and was equipped with sufficient toiletries and equipment. This was especially handy as I became seriously ill one day. There was no issue in a lack of towels or anything, so that I did not have to go for housekeeping in the room at all. The room was very well maintained at my arrival. Shower amenities as well as soap and body lotion came in dispensers. There were also some additional amenities like a block of soap in the room.
Hampton Inn Fall River/Westport – Breakfast
Despite staying five nights, I unfortunately could not take too many pictures of the breakfast area – it was simply too packed. Due to its proximity to the highway and some sports events in the area, it was quite crowded. However, the staff did well. There could have been some more fruit and healthy options on top of the dishes typically provided by Hamptons in North America. Nonetheless, I had a really nice start of the day during my stay in Massachusetts.
Hampton Inn Fall River/Westport – Service
The people at the reception desk of the hotel was really nice and helpful. WiFi in the room worked very well. The hotel operates a gym and an indoor pool, both at a typical North American size.
As said, I paid the stay by points. On the night before check-out, my credit card was blocked with the amount of the stay. This has never been the case in other Hilton Honors point stays I had. The blocked amount was released later, but I felt that being very inconvenient, as it reduces your credit card limit. Imagine that would have happened during my Conrad Tokyo stay, which would have easily blown my (financial impact would have been around 4,000 EUR).
Hampton Inn Fall River/Westport – My View
I had a good time at the Hampton Inn Fall River/Westport. The place is very popular, but its location is rather convenient. However, there is no core attraction in close distance, you always have to drive a certain distance to get to one of the key places around.
