Franklin (TN) Old Town

Already on the second day of my Six US States and Nashville trip in June 2025, I headed to Franklin, South of Nashville. I had the 84,000 inhabitant town on my bucket list anyway, as its city center is regarded being a real beauty. Furthermore, I looked forward to see a concert of dear Jenn Bostic in one of the venues there. In this posting, though, I rather introduce you to the Old Town of Franklin, as part of my Pictured Stories. Enjoy!

Franklin TN – Location & Traffic

Franklin is a 84,000 inhabitant city some 20 miles South of Nashville. It belongs to the Greater Nashville Area. The old town is majorly spread alongside Main Street with the Public Square being one of the key places in town. There are several bars, restaurants, and stores alongside the road.

The easiest way to get from Nashville to Franklin is by car. I-65 is connecting the two towns. There is also a bus connection (bus line 7) from Southern Nashville to Franklin. In the city center, there is a major parking garage, which is offering free parking – and some nice views from the top deck.

Views of Franklin TN

The city of Franklin has been founded on 26th October 1799 by Abram Maury Jr, who was a Tennessee State Senator (see my State Capitol Visit) later. The old town features a few museums (which I did not manage to have a look into during my visit) and a couple of historic buildings. The first one of those you see on the pictures below is the Historic Courthouse. I first headed Northeast and explored the East Main Street section with a couple of churches and historic style buildings.

Especially around Franklin Public Square, there are numerous interesting stores and cute cafes. Heading further to the (South-)West, you pass The Franklin Theatre and other interesting buildings like the Historic Franklin Presbyterian Church and the Williamson County Government Building. It’s a really picturesque place worth having a visit.
