Covering at least one day of the Czitrom Andras Hungaria Kupa in October 2024 and reporting from the Hungarian Floorball National Teams required me two have two nights in Budapest. As my travel plans had a very early inbound connection from Budapest Kelenföld Rail Station, I was aiming for a hotel closed to that place. Here is my review.
ibis Styles Budapest Citywest – Location
The ibis Styles is located Northwest of Kelenföld Station, walking distance to the platforms is some 500 meters / 10 minutes. The area around the hotel directly located at the M1/M7 motorway is rather commercial. There is a small shopping venue close to the hotel (Budapest One) and a major one right East of the station (Etele Plaza)
Kelenföld offers excellent traffic connections. The train station itself features a range of local, regional, national and international trains. The bus station located West of the station and the tram stop East of the station (line 1) adds some options to that. The train station is also connected by the Budapest Metro line M4. If you arrive by car, the hotel offers paid parking. However, the approach from the North is a bit of tricky as you need to take a U turn through a tunnel.
ibis Styles Budapest Citywest – Room
I had two nights in the Accor Group Hotel. My stay was from Thursday to Saturday in a standard double room at a non-public rate. ibis Styles stays always include breakfast. The room was compact and as colorful as the whole hotel. I especially liked the wall painting next to the bed. However, the room had everything you need for a short stay in the Hungarian capital, including a really nice and large number of power outlets around the room. Finally, there was also sufficient space for my luggage and photo gear. Especially during the night, you could also store some items behind the bed, which I really liked.
The shower bathroom was actually really nice and even had quite some space for my toiletries. There were dispensers for soap and shower gel as well. Like the whole hotel room, the room felt clean and was well maintained.
ibis Styles Budapest Citywest – Breakfast
ibis Styles Budapest Citywest has a breakfast room on ground level. It is comparably large. The buffet comes with a nice range of items, including rather typical Hungarian dishes like sausages or salads. I had significantly worse buffets in other Hungarian locations before, so that I really liked that one.
As I had to check out early after the second night (at around 5:20), I had the opportunity to get a breakfast bag from the hotel. It was really much bigger than I expected, including two sandwiches, an apple, juice and a cereal bar. Köszönöm for that special service.
ibis Styles Budapest Citywest – Service
The staff was very kind and helpful. There was no problem in communicating in English with them. WiFi in the hotel worked very well. The hotel does not feature additional amenities like a gym. However, you could get coffee and water for free from the lobby area.
ibis Styles Budapest Citywest – My View
For my purpose, the ibis Styles has been the perfect choice. I was close to the train station and not too far away from the floorball venues. For a city trip, the lack of services around may be bothering, but Kelenföld is offering a really nice range of connections on the other hand, which may even make you explore the region around Budapest from there. Thus, I have an absolutely positive memory of my stay.
