Emma Elizabeth - A Sudden Break In The Clouds
Flyctory.com Pros
- Good songwriting skills
- Characteristic sound
Flyctory.com Cons
- Monotonous and less versatile than predecessor
I featured Emma Elisabeth in March 2022 already. At that time, the Swedish artist released her third album, Some Kind of Paradise. On 24th October 2025, she released A Sudden Break In The Clouds. Let’s have another listen to her.
Emma Elisabeth – About The Artist
Emma Elisabeth Dittrich was born in Sweden in 1984. Both of her parents are musicians and she played multiple instruments and well as being part of choirs and bands during her childhood and youth years already. Later, she studied singing at the Kulturama in Stockholm. In 2010, she had an abroad semester in Berlin and stayed there. In 2013, she participated in the German qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, at that time as Betty Dittrich. This lead to her German debut album in 2013, Gute Jungs, böse Mädchen. Her first album as Emma Elisabeth was the 2016 Cover Stories.
Emma Elisabeth – A Sudden Break In The Clouds – Track by Track
The twelve track album lasts 42 minutes.

1. Brando
Emma Elisabeth’s 2025 album starts with Brando. The song has a indie-pop an folk vibes, the instruments are played with a major vibrato. Overall, the song is calm, slow, quiet, and thus spreads a melancholic, but also very personal atmosphere. By its style, it also feels very intense. Definitely not a mainstream track, but Brando does have a nice catch.
2. Swan Song
The second track of the album is the Swan Song. The song is rhythmic and significantly more present. Emma Elisabeth plays with a mixture of calmer and more zesty parts. A really nice listen with an individual, characteristic touch.
3. Pretty Garden
Like the opener Brando, Pretty Garden has been published before album release already. The song even spreads some dream-pop vibes, working with a lot of reverb. The high voice parts of the Swedish artist support that impression, while the lower tune parts feel very reflecting.
4. Possibly Never
Emma Elisabeth’s album has a very individual touch. However, parts of Possibly Never feel quite mainstream-alike. Especially the instrumental sections create a depressing, dark atmosphere. A Sudden Break In The Clouds is a special album with special songs. The songwriting skills in here are undeniable, though.
5. Hell Or High Water
With Hell Or High Water, the album gets a rocking touch. The groovy bass suggests blues rock tunes, the guitars are more present than in other tracks. The song feels to be marching forward, driven by its pushing groove. The more, the quiet little breaks surprise and add some fragility to the fifth song of the record.
6. Under The Sun (Interlude)
In fact, Under The Sun is like a two part song, both parts have been released beforehand. It starts with this 25 second interlude, which seamlessly flows into the main song.
7. Under The Sun (Full version)
The main part of Under The Sun combines indie-pop and indie-rock elements. The track is a nice blending of lovely vocals and good instrumental sections. Emma Elisabeth and her songs stay in your mind.
8. Songs About The City
Songs About The City slows down the pace a bit. The song feels like a blues rock track with strong indie vibes. The Swedish artist’s voice feels to be very nicely presented in here. The rather long duration of 4:32 minutes obviously also grant some space for instrumental virtuosity.
9. Lovers In Reverse
The ninth track of A Sudden Break In The Clouds feels like a sad ballad. Here and there, though, the song feels to break out of its limits and presents rather hymnic parts. An interesting plot.
10. Head Full Of Dreams
Head Full Of Dreams reminds me of dream-pop again. However, with interesting synth melodies and other melodic elements, it feels being deeper and more complex. Nonetheless, it does miss a bit of a touch to me.
11. Chess With Death
In the penultimate song, Emma Elisabeth is playing chess with death. The song is one of the most atmospheric listens of the album – and also one of its longest ones. It is good songwriting, indeed.
12. The Ocotillos
The last episode of A Sudden Break In The Clouds is dedicated to The Ocotillos. The album closes with a fine folk-pop melody. By that, it is one of my favorite listens of the whole record.

Emma Elisabeth – A Sudden Break In The Clouds – My View
When I featured Some Kind of Paradise over three years ago, I really enjoyed Emma Elisabeth and her music. The album was versatile, interesting, catching. A Sudden Break In The Clouds makes me struggle much more. The songwriting and arrangement skills are still there. Here and there, the Swedish artist also surprises with interesting twists as well. However, the album as such feels too monotonous to me. She simply does not catch me. Hope you state that I am wrong.
Favorite Song: The Ocotillos
