  • Beautiful storytelling
  • Nice atmosphere

On the weekend of 5th July 2024, I feature some interesting releases by German artists. One of them is T.G. Copperfield, who has been very active since turning solo. On 5th July 2024, the Americana / country rock artist shared his latest release, the eight song album Steppenwolf. I had a listen.

T.G. Copperfield – About The Artist

T.G. Copperfield is an artist from Regensburg in Germany. He used to play in the band 3 Dayz Whiskey, before he also turned solo and released his debut album in early 2017. He is also on stage with the T.G.Copperfield Acoustic Trio. Since turning solo, he has released an impressing songbook. In the rather short time, he as released ten albums and EPs already.

T.G. Copperfield – Steppenwolf – Track by Track

The eight song release lasts 27 minutes.

1. From The Cradle To The Grave

The opener From The Cradle To The Grave has a nice blues-rock touch. Copperfield’s voice sounds gentle while the drums are strumming like the sound of a nostalgic train. The song spreads a lot of atmosphere. Nice one.

2. Burn In Hell

The title Burn In Hell already suggests some rougher sounds. Indeed, the guitars have an increased presence in the second song of this short album. They are nicely driving the song. This overall turns the song into a nice Americana rocker, which is in fact an anti-war song.

3. The Lord Of The Flies

The Lord Of The Flies is a fine song, which reminds me a bit of Tom Petty. The song comes with beautiful storytelling. The lyrics are definitely in focus here – the melodic part of the third track is rather relaxed and a bit of monotonous.

4. My Dirty Mind

My Dirty Mind is a another song which feels dark, but also comes with a very intimate style. My dirty mind makes me think of you anytime – a song full of love and desire. Nice work on the guitar side.

5. Jonah & The Whale

Jonah & The Whale adds another very different style to the album. The rhythm even has a touch of jazz, even though the overall sound of the track is a country-blues one. Definitely a nice listen. .

6. Highway Cafe

The musical trip to the Highway Cafe is the only song which has been released beforehand. Winners and losers, they all find the place as T.G. Copperfield is describing this location. Another really fine song, which is beautifully describing the scenery in this place. Where they bring all their sorrows and drink them away – no need for sorrow about this track.

7. The Night Is Coming Down

With 4:33 minutes, the song is the longest one on Steppenwolf. The song is very groovy and also comes with more intense guitar play. The organ background adds a nice touch. Blues rock fans will definitely listen to this one with a smile in their face.

8. The Call Of The Wild

The chucker-out of Steppenwolf is The Call Of The Wild. The song comes with a relatively wide and versatile instrumental setup, which leads to a reall nice atmosphere.

T.G. Copperfield – Steppenwolf – My View

Steppenwolf is a fine recording by T.G. Copperfield. The German is excellent in telling his stories. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere in the songs. The release feels too long for an EP and too short for an album – but that’s really the only thing I do struggle with.
