After I recently made you familiar with the DoubleTree in Milton Keynes, which is located right inside a soccer stadium, the Hilton Garden Inn Stuttgart NeckarPark is right next to one: from my room, I had a nice view of Mercedes-Benz-Arena, home of the Soccer Bundesliga Club VfL Stuttgart. Here is the review of my stay in the Hilton franchise hotel in January 2022.
Hilton Garden Inn Stuttgart NeckarPark- Location
The hotel is located right West of the Mercedes-Benz-Arena in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstadt. The distance between the hotel exit and the entrance gate to the soccer grounds is likely about 50 meters.. The area is also connected by the tram station NeckarPark (Stadion), which is a short walk away. However, when there is no match day, the service, especially in direction to city center, is limited. Thus using the bus (lines 45, 56) from the same station may be favorable. There is plenty of parking around. The hotel also features a garage (16 Euro per night).
The area features a couple of other event spaces like the Porsche Arena and the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle. Another iconic Stuttgart place is the Mercedes-Benz Museum, which is at most a ten minute walk away. The hotel is not suitable if you want to visit the city center of Stuttgart – the connections are rather poor and the current construction at Stuttgart Main Station significantly boosts the pain. Due to the proximity to so many arenas, the hotel feels to be very popular for celebrities.
Hilton Garden Inn Stuttgart NeckarPark – The Room
I booked a King Superior Room at a rate of 94.05 EUR. My Hilton Honors Diamond status grants free breakfast. At check-in the hotel stated that they upgraded me (which is a mandatory upgrade due to status) to a … Superior Room. However, when I stated that this is my booked room class, the corrected it and gave me an actually really nice and spacious Deluxe Room. Bad luck that they did not go for the Junior Suite (though available) – these ones come with an in-room sauna.
As said, the room was great and spacious. It even had a touch of a Junior Suite as there was some sort of hallway with a cabinet and a rack for the suitcase. The work desk was really large as well. The sofa added some more comfort – this part of the room also had a cupboard with a microwave oven and the coffee/tea facilities. In the night, you could darken the room with proper, electronically driven shutters. The only really negative side: there have been a lot of power sockets – but there have been a lot of taken ones: Out of three ones at the work desk, only one was available (the other ones taken by the TV and the fridge), the socket at one side of the bed was blocked by an alarm clock (which at least featured USB charging). Nonetheless, one of the best Hilton Garden Inn rooms I saw so far – the hotel design is really nice.
The bathroom was quite spacious as well. There was only a shower (which was really nicely sized) and sufficient space around the sink. Quite a lot of towels in the room, as the room as originally been assigned to a party of four and they hard to put the sofa and remove the linen for my unexpected stay.
Hilton Garden Inn Stuttgart NeckarPark – Food & Breakfast
I typically start the nutrition part of my review with the breakfast – this time I am going for dinner first. I had been quite exhausted after a long sightseeing day in Stuttgart, so that I have been really glad to have a bite in the rather cozy restaurant area of the hotel. The area is huge and feels to be quite fit for purpose even if they have high occupancy. The service was absolutely nice and the food was very good (the fries were a bit too salty, maybe). I claimed a discount on food (10%) due to the Hilton Credit Card I own, but they gave me a significantly higher one due to my status. Really a good evening – it would have been even a very good value for money without the reduced price.
After this really good experience, I was looking forward to the breakfast buffet. However, the hotel could not hold my expectation there. They had a nice variety, but I struggled with some of the dishes offered. The bottom has really been the hot buffet: several hashed browns stuck together, the same happened to the bacon. The morning service could also not at all keep up with the lovely evening staff. The worst experience has been when the two servers loudly discussed service rules standing right in front of the coffee machine… and ignoring that there was a guest standing behind them to grab a hot drink. Ouch!
Hilton Garden Inn Stuttgart NeckarPark – Services
Unfortunately, I had multiple minor service issues. I already mentioned the “upgrade”. My status assigns me premium WiFi, but logging into it just gave me the standard one for free. These things could be solved. When I wanted to grab my luggage on my day of departure after some strolling through the city, it took me 20 minutes to actually get it. A guest felt to be right to complain that they booked tips on him he had not signed off on before (!). However, this finally took three receptionists to solve the issue – and when they could at least free one of them, they served guests who came later first. Terrible performance.
I have also been given wrong information about the gym, which was open during my visit. The hotel also offers a sauna for guests. The hotel has direct access to the Carl Benz Center, another event location in the NeckarPark. Once I received the code for premium WiFi, it worked really well. Another issue I had – I don’t at all blame the hotel for that – was that they hosted a VfB Stuttgart team (reception said that it was their Bundesliga squad, but I cannot confirm). Unfortunately, you could not only identify the team by their trainers, but also as most of the people in this clothing I met in the hotel did not at all or very late wear masks in the aisle of the hotel. Quite surprising if your income also depends on your health situation…
Hilton Garden Inn Stuttgart NeckarPark – My View
If you are going to a soccer match or a concert or just want to have a short morning walk to the Mercedes-Benz Museum, this Hilton Garden Inn is a great choice. Of course, their event rates will be significantly higher than the lean price I paid. Some services like breakfast and the front desk won’t work out in high attendance if they are organized the way they were during my stay. Very good experience, even though the service issues give a hit to my final rating.
