  • Rather similar voices

In the German speaking country music region, Cat Lion is likely one of the most interesting emerging artists. On 30th May 2025, the Austrian artist releases her debut album On My Cloud. I already had a listen and share my thoughts with you.

Cat Lion – About The Artists

Cat Lion is the artist name of Austrian artist Clara Löw. She is nowadays majorly living in Munich in Germany, though. As her husband is involved in preserving historic buildings, they also partially live on Castle Hofhegnenberg South of Augsburg. Even though Cat Lion got in touch in the 1980’s in her home town Bad Ischl already, she is releasing country music just since some two years.

Cat Lion – On My Cloud – Track by Track

The eleven track album lasts 38 minutes.

1. Two Lives

The opening track is likely Cat Lion’s most prominent song so far. Two Lives already sets the direction of the album. The arrangement is rather traditional. However, the song still does not feel outdated.

2. Upside Down, Inside Out

Please bring me my coffee black, not white – at least the choice of drinks in the lyrics tells you that this is not a Nashville artist. The second song of the album has a nice honky-tonk beat and a nice speed. Even Cat Lion stays rather on the traditional country music side, the track indeed has a catch.

3. Stop!

I like the country music blending the Austrian artist is showing on her debut album. Stop!, for example, initially has a touch of country schlager, before the chorus has a comparably modern vibe. This overall leads to a very entertaining listen, which has the potential to work out for many listeners.

4. Cause Memories, They Last

Cause Memories, They Last is a ballad, but takes a slower and more emotional route. It is a good song with a nice melody. The arrangement is fine. You cannot deny that the song is very close to the tracks before, though.

5. The Drizzle

Just in line with the title, especially the stanzas of The Drizzle are more dark and even a bit of melancholic. First of all, I feel that Cat Lion does perform this kind of song very well. Secondly, it is a slightly different style, which leads to an increased variety during the listen.

6. Pin Me Up

After this altering musical episode, Pin Me Up presents a very traditional country music sound. The steel guitar is heartwarming for country music lovers. However, the song overall does not present too many different vibes and thus is a bit of boring in the context of the album.

7. Pretty Baby

Even though I enjoy listening to Pretty Baby, it feels too close to the songs before. The song is a nice listen for country traditionalists, the rhythmic section is driving the song at a rather fast speed. The steel guitar is – again – the key driver on the instrumental side. A bit of sad, as Clara Löw’s voice is really beautiful in this song again.

8. Out Of My Heart

In this song, Cat Lion states I can’t get you out of my heart. Suddenly, On My Cloud turns into a more modern direction. The vocals are again the key beauty of the song, which has some nice piano parts.

9. This Ain‘t Love

When Cat Lion is playing This Ain’t Love in a traditional style country music saloon, I am sure that the audience will love her. It is simply nicely made for that kind of setting. If you manage to set your inner clock  to a few decades back, it will make you smile.

10. My Cloud

The electric guitar and the its steel brother are the key catches on My Cloud. The chorus feels slightly modern, but overall, it is a too stereotypical and repetitive part of Cat Lion’s debut. If you put it on your playlist as an individual track, though, the really nice beat of the song might even make you dance.

11. Not Too Late

Not Too Little is closing On My Cloud. The song is a rather straight ballad. The country music elements are not as present as in most songs in here. A very nice final listen of the record.

Here is the album on Spotify:

Cat Lion – On My Cloud – My View

I struggle with On My Cloud. The feature single Two Lives is by far the most modern song on it.The album is presenting too similar songs. However, the storytelling and especially the voice of the Austrian artist is pushing the rating of this release at least to a significantly higher level.

Favorite Song: Stop!
