I am in Istanbul this weekend and spend some time in Türkiye. A lot of preparation is currently ahead of me, as I am going to Nashville and other places in about a week. But now, let’s focus on mew song releases. Here are my favorite songs I ran into this week.
Sarah Engels – Keep You Safe
This time, my Songs of the Week are lead by a hometown lady. Sarah Engels was born in Cologne in 1992. After she placed second in the German version of American Idol, she had some yellow press stories. While she initially sang in English, she rather headed towards schlager. Keep You Safe is the first single from her upcoming album Strong Girls Club, which will be an English release on 22nd August 2025. By the way, if you think of German artist Leony while listening to this one – she is indeed in the credits of the song.
Nick Howard – Unstoppable
Nick Howard has made it into my Songs Of The Week four times already, including leading the 13th May 2022 edition with Second Chance. This week, the Brighton-origin singer-songwriter becomes Unstoppable – if there wasn’t Sarah Engels. A really lovely track.
Kingfishr – Diamonds & Roses
For Kingfishr, Diamonds & Roses is the second appearance in Songs of the Week. In the 11th April 2025 edition, I loved their song Gloria. Now, the Irish folk–rockers are back with this song. Great lyrics and a beautiful Irish music touch.
mgk – Cliche
mgk? That’s nobody else than Machine Gun Kelly. No rap this time, but a cool pop track with an alternative touch and a good drive. Another track which just barely missed the top of this posting. I am sure the artist from Houston does not bother too much. His last album Mainstream Sellout is a 2022 one – would love to hear some more new music in that style from him and his band.
April Art – Karma Is A Beach
Karma is a B…. NO, not what you are thinking… At least if you are not in line with April Art, a German band from Gießen, North of Frankfurt. This song simply made me smile – and even though I feel the song even is not on top of its potential, it is already great fun. Hope there is a new album soon after their 2022 one, P.O.K.E.R.F.A.C.E.. The band, which I featured at the Seepark Biker Days 2023, will tour later this year.
Renee Rapp – Leave Me Alone
Leave Me Alone by Renee Rapp really surprised me. Typically, the music by the US-American artist from Huntersville, North Carolina, might not make it into this series of posts. However, I feel it is simply cool. On 1st August 2025, she will release her new album Bite Me.
B!rnbaum – Just Let Go
Just Let Go by B!rnbaum is based on a song by Jetsün Milarepa from Tibet. Now the German artist Martin Birnbaum, known as B!rnbaum, turns this into a very inspiring piece of music – and I felt to share this one with you.
Elfenthal, Maite Itoiz & John Kelly – Set Me Free
The artist list of that song is a bit too much, likely. In fact, the married couple Maite Itoiz and John Kelly are founding members of Elfenthal. Before that, John Kelly has been a founding member of The Kelly Family. This symphonic rock song comes with a really catching and impressing sound.
Linda Elys x Milow – House On Fire
The Swiss folk-pop artist Linda Elys has released House of Fire as a solo version in October 2023. However, this version alongside Belgian singer-songwriter Milow, it get to a completely different level. I really love this collaboration.
Jonathan Stephen Simons – Wayward Water
With Wayward Water, this post is heading to the Southern Hemisphere. The South African singer-songwriter Jonathan Stephen Simons is from Cape Town. He sometimes solely names himself JSS, by the way. The song will also be part of Time Flows Like Water, an album which will be released in November 2025.
AV & The Inner City – The Failer
The AV in the band name AV & The Inner City stands for Ann Vriend. They have formed during Covid-19 times in Edmonton in Canada. The Failer is the third song release of the band.
