  • Characteristic, nostalgic sound
  • Very good storytelling

A mixture of rock, blues and soul – that’s the music of Jeremie Albino. On 1st November 2024, the is releasing his fourth studio album overall, Our Time In The Sun. I had a listen already and share my thoughts.

Jeremie Albino – About The Artist

Jeremie Albino is a Canadian artist from Toronto. He rather grew up on the countryside, though. His music is blended by different Americana genres and rock music. In 2019, Albino released his debut album Hard Times. Thereafter, there were two additional long-plays, Blue Blue Blue (2021) and Tears You Hide (2023). The 2021 one also contains the duet with Cat Clyde, Been Worryin’, his most successful song on Spotify so far.

Jeremie Albino – Our Time In The Sun – Track by Track

The twelve song album lasts 39 minutes.

1. I Don’t Mind Waiting

The album starts gently with the groovy and soulful I Don’t Mind Waiting. The instrumental setting of the song is really nice. There is quite a lot going on in the background, including brass sounds, organ melodies and more. A nice welcome to the world of Our Time in the Sun.

2. Baby Ain’t It Cold Outside

The drums are kicking off the second track, before more and more instruments join in. After some forty seconds, the setting is complete and the Jeremie Albino is taking over the microphone role as well. The song comes with a similar arrangement than the opener, but feels more present. Baby Ain’t It Cold Outside feels a bit nostalgic and traditional, but you cannot deny that it comes with beauty.

3. Let Me Lay My Head

The 4:14 minute track Let Me Lay My Head is the longest listen on Our Time In The Sun. The song is more quiet, the rhythm section is rather present. Overall, the song feels very personal and intimate, until the guitars play a stronger role in the energetic finale.

4. Our Time In The Sun

It’s time for the title track of the album now. Our Time In The Sun nicely illustrates the style of the album. Listening to it, you get a blending of nice, not too fuzzy rock music with strong influences of R&B and soul element. Good for just listening, suitable to sing-a-long, but also virtuous. Nice.

5. Rolling Down The 405

If you look into Spotify statistic, Rolling Down The 405 has been the most successful of the four songs released before the album. The song is indeed more present and has a nice rock’n’roll touch. On the one hand, Jeremie Albino created a certain level of ease, but on the other hand, the instrumental arrangement is fun to follow as well. I really like it.

6. So Many Ways To Say I Love You

The title of the sixth track already suggests some higher level of emotions. And that’s what you finally get as well. So Many Ways To Say I Love You is one of the shortest listens on this record (2:46 minutes), but it does leave a mark.

7. Struggling With The Bottle

This one is a very personal song about feeling lonely and trying to chase my demons away. The song leans towards blues rock, but also has a strong psychedelic touch. A very intense message, which which puts emotions into a fascinating song.

8. Give It To Me One Last Time

Our Time In The Sun comes with another highlight in here. The song starts rather slow and gentle, more and more building up an intense atmosphere. The chorus is very catching. Like in the whole album, Jeremie Albino connects a good story with a beautiful musical setting and a very relatable style.

9. Dinner Bell

Dinner Bell is more soulful again. The song has an even stronger nostalgic touch than other songs on this record. But it also spreads a lot of energy and power. Nice one.

10. Since I’ve Been Knowing You

Since I’ve Been Knowing You opens with a fine piano melody. This is the foundation for a beautifully flowing melody. A beautiful love song, which is one of the nicest listens of the album.

11. Gimme Some

This part of the album has some real gems. One of them is the gentle and beautiful Gimme Some, which is adding a lovely additional style of song to Our Time In The Sun.

12. Hold Me Tight

Jeremie Albino is obviously not a friend of long farewells. At least, the last song of the album, Hold Me Tight, is also its shortest one. It is nice acoustic guitar-driven song, which is – similar as the previous one – working with a lovely gentleness.

Jeremie Albino – Our Time In The Sun – My View

I have to admit that I was initially uncertain what I should think about Our Time In The Sun. It took me some time to get into it, but then made me explore more and more beauties. The style of Jeremie Albino comes with a lovely nostalgia, but also with beautifully told stories. I am glad I had this experience.
