I more and more tend to have hotels in the outer boroughs of Pittsburgh when I visit the city. The central hotels are simply getting too pricey and come with additional charges like parking, so that more distant places become more and more attractive. As I had a rather early flight from Pittsburgh Airport (PIT) the next day, a stay at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Pittsburgh West – Green Tree felt like the ideal choice for a night in March 2023. Here is my review.
HI Express Pittsburgh West Green Tree – Location
Green Tree is a borough of Pittsburgh, located Southwest of the city center. Travel distance to Downtown Pittsburgh is about four miles, while the drive to the airport is about 16 miles. There are mainly commercial buildings in the area, as well as some other hotels. For example, I already shared my review of the DoubleTree by Hilton Pittsburgh – Green Tree.
The hotel is just a short drive away from I-376. Thus, it is really nicely linked if you want to visit Pittsburgh or explore the area around. There is an open-space parking as well as a parking garage provided by the hotel. There is also a bus stop in front of the hotel, served by line 38, operating roughly once an hour.
HI Express Pittsburgh West Green Tree – Room
I had a one night stay at this IHG hotel in March 2023. The standard room rate from Tuesday to Wednesday, breakfast included, was 108.14 USD, including taxes. Cancellation was possible up to seven nights before the in-fact stay. The room I got was spacious and overall well-equipped. You cannot deny a certain touch of a “traditional” design, but the room is finally far better then Holiday Inn Express hotels in Europe. There were two king beds and a rather large working area. The room was clean.
In the bathroom, the area around the toilet could have profited from a bit more space – but overall, it was really nice. I really liked that the hotel had Dove products as amenities in dispensers. This came on top of some other toiletry items provided. Especially, that meant that you have shower gel instead of “just” having a bar of soap. The view of the room was on the area – as you see, it was a bit of snowy on the day of my stay.
HI Express Pittsburgh West Green Tree – Breakfast
The complimentary breakfast buffet was actually quite nice, based on the standard of the hotel. There were several warm items as well as a pancake maker provided. The breakfast area located close to the reception was really nice and spacious as well.
HI Express Pittsburgh West Green Tree – Service
Unfortunately, my check-in felt to take ages. This was also due to a weird prioritization of customers by the receptionist, who served a customer before me who was behind in the queue. Apart from that, the staff was very friendly and helpful and check-out went smoothly as well. The hotel runs a surprisingly large gym as well. Unfortunately, I could not take more than one picture there, as it was used by guests whenever I went there. On top, the hotel also has a rather nice indoor hotel pool as well. The towels might have to be serviced more frequently, but I overall really liked these amenities. The WiFi speed in the hotel was good as well.
HI Express Pittsburgh West Green Tree – My View
The Holiday Inn Express really came with nice service. The location is good as well. Green Tree is a nice spot when you want to avoid Downtown hotel prices. Apart from the weird check-in procedure, I really enjoyed staying at this place.
