Flyctory.com Pros

  • Very versatile album
  • Nice singer-songwriter style with good storytelling

The first albums released with Robert Forster are already dated as of the early 1980’s. The artist went solo some ten years thereafter. On 23rd May 2025, he released his ninth solo album Strawberries. Here is my review.

Robert Forster – About The Artist

Robert Forster is an Australian singer-songwriter, who was born on 29th June 1957 in Brisbane. His first steps into professional music was as a co-founder of The Go-Betweens. The band has been active from 1977 to 1989 and from 2000 to 2006. They were especially successful in Down Under and the United Kingdom. In 1990, Forster released his solo debut album, Danger in the Past. Overall, he has released eight solo albums so far.

Robert Forster – Strawberries – About The Artist

The eight track album lasts 37 minutes.

1. Tell It Back To Me

Robert Forster welcomes the listener of his new album with a friendly melody. The song is somewhere between pop and rock, not only the harmonica spreads some Americana vibes. Overall, Tell It Back To Me is a lovely singer-songwriter track.

2. Good To Cry

Good To Cry is a faster and overall agile track. There feel to be elements for any kind of listener in it: some parts remind of folk and country, but right in the next moment, the track leans back to rock music with a classic touch. Together with the nice pace and rhythm of the song, the second track on Strawberries is really enjoyable.

3. Breakfast On The Train

After the first two songs somehow come with a a mainstream radio duration, Robert Forster takes more time now. Breakfast On The Train is an epic duration, which almost lasts eight minutes. On the melodic side, the song is not that stunning. However, it strikes with the thoughts and picturesque description of a trip. Forster’s storytelling is excellent.

4. Strawberries

Despite this is an eight track record, only the title track Strawberries has been released before the album. The song has a lovely ease and beautifully sways into the mind of the listener. It does have a nostalgic touch with a rather traditional (but wide) instrumentation. I really like the vibes of it.

5. All Of The Time

Overall, this song is about the (likely) most popular topic in music – love. All Of The Time comes with a fine melody, which makes you smile. And the reason that I need you is that love you all of the time – that’s already a nice basis. Apart from nice storytelling (again), the song has a really nice melodic touch. Thumbs up!

6. Such A Shame

The piano opens the sixth song on StrawberriesSuch A Shame. In the first part of the track, there is more or less solely the piano and the artist, which leads to a very personal feeling. Even though the song has a clear crescendo, it keeps this quite intimate character. Rock music lovers will also enjoy the six string chords.

7. Foolish I Know

Foolish I Know is a deep and thoughtful folk-style singer-songwriter track. The instrumentation is not featuring too many instruments, but the song shows a very nice and fine melody. Again, the Australian artist knows how to catch your attention – and does not need too many musical tools for that.

8. Diamonds

With the closing tracks, there is a stronger Americana touch on Strawberries at the beginning. However, Robert Forster rather soon surprises with loud guitar-centric elements, which even have a psychedelic touch. The song reminds of typical indie rock in these moments.

Robert Forster – Strawberries – My View

Robert Forster is a good musician and – more than that – an excellent storyteller. His 2025 album definitely underlines that.. Despite Strawberries just consists of eight songs, the album has a lot of different ideas in stock. I really like it.

Favorite Song: Breakfast On The Train
