Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks are doing blues and blues rock since 2010. With Future Soul, their Tedeschi Trucks Band is releasing their sixth studio album overall already. Here is my review of the 20th March 2026 release.

Tedeschi Trucks Band – About the Artists

The Tedeschi Trucks Band has been founded in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2010. Today, it consists of twelve members. Apart from Susan Tedeschi (vocals, guitar) and Derek tracks (guitar), four active members are actually founding ones. The most well-known is likely Mike Mattison, who is also a lead singer and guitarist of the band. The band uses a wide range of instruments, including the saxophone, flute, trumpet or the trombone. Made Up Mind (2013), the second album of the band, has been the most successful album of the US-Americans, peaking eleventh in the domestic charts. However, their debut album Revelator (2011) won a Grammy Award as the Best Blues Album in 2012. The most recent Tedescchi Trucks Band album is I Am the Moon (2022).

Tedeschi Trucks Band – Future Soul – Track by Track

The eleven song album lasts 43 minutes.

1. Crazy Cryin’

The groovy first notes of Crazy Cryin’ even have a bit of a funk touch. This elements comes back repeatedly, even though blues and rock more and more become the leading influences for the opener of the album. It has a nice melody and flow.

2. I Got You

The following two songs are the so-far single releases of Future Soul. Again, I Got You strikes with a nice speed and flow. This time, the melodic elements spread a touch of surf rock. Especially towards the middle of the song, the Tedeschi Truck Band more and more profits from their wide range of instruments.

3. Who Am I

Who Am I is the other single release of the album. After the energetic, rhythmic and speedy openers, the third song of the rather record rather presents a calm song. Susan Tedeschi is in clear focus of he song and beautifully tells its story with an impressing voice. The blues and rock elements are not that present in this very hymnic experience. The guitar solo towards the end tells about the musical roots of the band, though.

4. Hero

Hero is definitely not an ordinary song, praising your heroes in life. It starts rather calm, but them becomes more and more virtuous, experimental, even a bit of psychedelic. Thus, the song shows a very different aspect of the Tedeschi Truck Band’s work.

5. What In The World

What In The World is another very special song on Future Soul. It starts as a country music ballad. Again, during the duration of the song, it develops very different aspects and comes with flavors of gospel and soul. Nonetheless, the song does not feel artificial. This overall leads to a very interesting listen.

6. Future Soul

You want to rock with Tedeschi, Trucks and their bandmates? That’s what the title track has in stock for you. A great work from the string section. Future Soul has a rough signature with a good beat. However, the vocals in the chorus indeed have a very soulful character. Just like the chorus is stating – the future’s got soul in me.

7. Under The Knife

Under The Knife is a modern, very bluesy and groovy song. The bass section is driving the song. The vocals, the brass sounds, the percussion, this song offers so many different and interesting aspects, which makes it feel very rich.

8. Be Kind

If you would reduce the arrangement of Be Kind, you would likely end up in a speedy country song with some pop and soul attitudes. However, the band is going for their full melodic potential, which leads to a massive and somehow “loud” song. It is an absolutely impressing listen.

9. Devil Be Gone

The next song of the Future Soul is Devil Be Gone. Again, the different styles and elements of the song lead to a fascinating listen. The stanzas and the bridge feel like the perfect blues rocker for your next national park road trip, preferably by motorcycle. However, the hymnic, massive chorus leads to a straight listen, but also to a certain contrast.

10. Shout Out

The Shout Out towards the end of the album comes with a nice groovy style. Again, Tedeschi’s voice is in focus of this song – and she is doing an amazing work at the microphone.

11. Ride On

Ride On is a slower fade-out of Future Soul. The song has stronger country music influences again. The instrumental arrangement is not too present in here. Not my favorite song, but a nice choice to farewell from this record.

Tedeschi Trucks Band – Future Soul – My View

Versatility, instrumental and vocal excellence are the key factors of Future Soul. Tedeschi Trucks Band do opulent music and illustrate this in their 2026 release. Some songs are too experimental, but overall, the album is a really fine listen.

Favorite Song: Be Kind
