Flyctory.com Pros

  • Nice and friendly services
  • Relaxed handling
  • Car in very good state, regarding rental price

Flyctory.com Cons

  • Weird directions to the airport from Venice
  • Very narrow parking garage

Covering three match days of the Women World Floorball Championship Qualification in January / February 2025 demanded me to go for a rental car. First of all, Lignano Sabbiadoro, was just too far away from Venice Airport (VCE), the closest well-accessible option. Secondly, the distance between the venue and my hotel, the Il Milione Country House, was about a 30 minute driving distance. For this trip, I went for a national provider, Sicily by Car. Here is my review of the experience.

Sicily by Car Venice Airport (VCE) – The Rental

I had a four day rental with Sicily by Car at Venice Airport (VCE). I went for their category D, a Fiat 500X, which was also the car category I received. The Wednesday to Sunday contract was 155.47 EUR. It also included the second best insurance cover. Road tolls have to be paid individually by the driver.

Sicily by Car Venice Airport (VCE) – Location & Office

There are a few rental car offices at the end of the main hall of Venice Airport (VCE). Sicily by Car has a desk there, too, but it was closed due to low season. This did not bother too much, as the main location for these desk is at Parking Garage P1, where you have to pick up the car anyway. The directions are very well given, sometimes even with stickers on the floor. It is the same direction as the water taxis and ferries to the laguna of Venice, before you head left into the garage. At the time of writing the review, the Sicily by Car office is open from 8:00 to 23:00 daily.

Sicily by Car Venice Airport (VCE) – Receiving The Car

Receiving the car was straight and very easy. The staff was very friendly and their level of speaking English was absolutely fit for purpose. The whole paperwork process took some five minutes, before I got the key and the location of the car. There was a minor damage (a small break at the wheel trim, which was not marked in the report I received. The only downside is leaving the parking garage. The rather narrow, high concrete wall ways down are quite a bit of tricky, especially as you are not yet used to the car.

Sicily by Car Venice Airport (VCE) – Returning The Car

The car return was smooth and easy as well. The directions to the airport and, within the airport grounds, to the car retntal retturn are clear and transparent. If you come from Venice or its mainland borough Mestre, you should not follow the airport direction from there. They take you on a bypass, which is significantly longer and overall takes you some ten to fifteen additional minutes. The car return spots in the parking garage are at the same location than the pick-up ones. Again, I struggled a bit with the narrow route, now uphill. The car check was completed very quickly, so that I absolutely loved the processing by Sicily by Car.

The Car – Fiat 500X

As said, the car I booked and received wasa Fiat 500X. The car was even a bit of larger than I expected. The technical equipment was fine. Due to regulations in the area in winter season, snow chains were automatically provided (but not necessary for my trip). One of the reasons why I went for Sicily by Car, apart from being curious about the provider, was their very competitive price. This also implies that the car had a rather high mileage, some 80,000 km. However, the car was in good condition and there were no issues. Of course, it had some (minor) scratches and dents, but that also decreases the potential of later liabilities.

Sicily by Car Venice Airport (VCE) – My View

Overall, Sicily by Car at Venice was a really nice experience. The processing was efficient and friendly, the car was in absolutely fine condition and fit for my purpose. The rental car parking garage as well as the directions from Venice to the airport are a mess, though. That’s nothing the rental provider is responsible for, but it simply decreases your experience.
