  • 16 tracks
  • Lovely range of songs
  • Great, often very personal storytelling

Six EPs already, but no album – Dylan Schneider finally felt to change this weird statistics. On 27th September 2024, the country artist releases his debut albumPuzzled. I had a listen and share my thoughts about it in here.

Dylan Schneider – About The Artist

Dylan Schneider is an US-American artist from Terre Haute in Indiana. He was born there on 9th October 1999. He initially rather liked pop and hip hop, but then more and more went into country music in his teenage year. During these time, he also met Brett Eldredge. Schneider grew by posting his music, including covers, on YouTube. This finally lead to his self-released debut EP, Wannabe. So far, he is looking back to six EP releases. In 2018, his song How Does It Sound, received a golden record.

Dylan Schneider – Puzzled – Track by Track

The 16 song album lasts 49 minutes.

1. Carhartt

Carhartt opens the Puzzled album. The song comes with country-pop vibes and a hip hop alike groove. Thus, it feels very modern, the chorus is a catch. Maybe not a song which gives you a strong branding – but you definitely have fun listening to this Dylan Schneider song.

2. Country Right

Especially regarding it is a US-American debut album, there is a really nice leverage of new and already released songs. The second track Country Right is one previously unreleased track. The stanzas of the song remind of that country-pop-hip hop style of the opener. However, the chorus leaves a strong mark. We’re living country right – Dylan Schneider indeed does a lot of things right in here – not without touching country music stereotypes.

3. Without June

After two rather party-orientated tracks, the slow guitar chords kicking off for Without June already suggest a more emotional listen. The 3:27 minute ballad, which becomes more energetic towards the end, works very well and feels very personal. A romantic one with a touch of kitsch – but that’s what love is about, ain’t it?

4. Bad Decisions

Bad Decisions has been one of the 2024 single releases. The song is very rhythmic and has a nice groove. I like the flow of this modern country music song, which is also featuring some nice guitar parts.

5. Here Comes The Sun

The fifth song on Puzzled is Here Comes The Sun. The song is a bit slower and melodic, the rhythm is not as present as in Bad Decision, for example. Dylan Schneider’s voice is in clear focus of this pleasant listen.

6. Bad At Breaking Up

I guess the title is already telling you what this song is about. The song describes the struggle at the end of a relationship – from both sides. We’re bad at breaking up nicely underlines this good song, which comes with nice storytelling. Nonetheless, the song has the ease of a country-pop song as well. I feel it really works out well.

7. Ain’t Missin’ You

Ain’t Missin’ You has already been released in September 2022. The song nicely fits into this rather emotional section of the album. I again feel that the vocals nicely suits to the song, the rhythmic style does not lead to a too wistful touch. The song still works out well, two years after its release.

8. Truck I Grew Up In

I am personally a bit of distant about stereotypical country songs. The title of the eighth song suggests that the song is heading in that direction. However, the song comes with a nice flow and is overall a really nice and more and more makes me smile. I am sure that other listeners are even more positive about this one than I am already.

9. Buy That Girl A Beer

From trucks to girls and beer – that’s somehow what the genre is about. The song is rather heading into the heartwarming direction and can easily serve on your “Romantic Country” playlist. You should be able to stand some degree of kitsch, though.

10. Ruin This Town

Ruin This Town is one of the songs, which Schneider released together with Bad Decisions. The song is much more energetic and powerful than the songs before. You feel the anger when he asks Why do have to ruin this town?. This turns the tenth song of Puzzled into a very relatable listen, which is also pleasing guitar lovers.

11. Put The Whiskey Away

Country life, girls, beer and whiskey -this Dylan Schneider album covers all the topics you typically think of when you think of country music. The song is rather in the mid-tempo range. I could imagine that this one is a great sing-a-long when the artist is back on stage. Schneider makes it very easy to feel the emotion of Put The Whiskey Away during this 2:31 minute listen.

12. Gone Is What I Get

The twelfth song is again dealing with breakup issues and emotions. The melancholic ballad is again touching and comes with a good atmosphere. The song simply does its job in a good way.

13. Momma’s House

You might know Momma’s House in the version of Dustin Lynch. However, the song names Dylan Schneider (among others) in the credits. Now he is doing the song by himself – and it is one of the pillars of Puzzled. Nice one.

14. Better Than You Left Me

The fourteenth track Better Than You Left Me goes back to the rhythmic country-pop style of some of the songs at the beginning of the album. This also means that it is a simply nice and easy listen. I really like it.

15. Daddy Drinks Whiskey

The last already released song on Puzzled is Daddy Drinks Whiskey. The song is very personal and thus one of the songs on the album which leaves the strongest mark at the listener. A great song about alcoholism, which is very touching.

16. Puzzled

Ain’t there something missing? Yeah, the title track of Dylan Schneider’s debut album is the closing one as well. Another very touching and personal listen, which feels being the just right choice after the intense listen of Daddy Drinks Whiskey.

I will add the Spotify widget once the album has been published.

Dylan Schneider – Puzzled – My View

There is fun and party as well as very touching, personal stories on Puzzled. Thus, Dylan Schneider is presenting a nice range and full set of his musical range on his debut album. Even though there are some songs in the middle of the album, which do not work that well for me, I am really impressed by the album as a whole. And that’s why I really like it.

Favorite Song: Puzzled
