Saving my Melia frequent traveler points and doing some research for Flyctory.com were two really good reasons to try out a stay in the North of Dusseldorf in July 2022. The hotel I opted for was the INNSIDE Dusseldorf Derendorf, which is nicely located to Dusseldorf Airport. As my previous Melia stay in the city at the INNSIDE Dusseldorf Hafen rather came with mixed emotions, I have been really curious about this hotel.
INNSIDE Dusseldorf Derendorf – Location
Derendorf is a borough of Dusseldorf at the Northern edge of the city center. You still feel rather central, though and have good connection. The area, in which the hotel is located is a mixture of residential and commercial buildings. There are not too many touristic services like supermarkets, restaurants or other hotels in very close proximity, but in doable distance.
The hotel does drive a parking garage (extra charge). Driving there from the A44 motorway is rather convenient, the connection to central Dusseldorf and other autobahns is fine as well. The public transport situation, though, is excellent. A few steps bring you to the Johannstraße tram station, from which the lines 705 and 707 connect you to the harbor area and the main station in Southern direction, but also to Eckenerstraße. From there it is just a 15 minute walk to the airport (at least with light luggage). Leaving the hotel to the East, brings you to the Straßburger Straße tram stop, which is in fact the terminus of the 704 line, connecting to main station. There are also multiple bus connections around.
INNSIDE Dusseldorf Derendorf – Room
My stay was a prepaid Innside Room from Monday to Tuesday in July 2022. The non-refundable rate was 84 Euro, including breakfast. I liked that the room doors featured the typical Do not disturb sign as wooden bars which you simply turn, according to your preferences. INNSIDE by Melia Hotels typically come with a posh and modern design – and so did this Dusseldorf location. The room had a nice size. The work desk was a good fit for purpose. A really nice feature of the room was that (as I booked via the Melia website), the minibar was filled with some soft drinks for free. Especially when you are exhausted after a long day and just feel like relaxing, these kind of things simply give you a smile. I always took pictures of the room right after I entered it – you see below that the blanket on the bed looked a bit odd, but it has definitely not been used before.
Similar to the other INNSIDE place In Dusseldorf I have stayed before, the bathroom is integrated into the room. The design is a beauty, a few doors became a bit narrow with by body size, though. The water stop mechanism in the toilet did not work so that you always had a full flush. Apart from that, there were no issues with the room.
INNSIDE Dusseldorf Derendorf – Breakfast
The restaurant next to the reception is a beauty. Especially the bar area is lovely, but the overall design of the place is generally nice and provided a welcoming scenery for breakfast as well. The selection was fine, the staff was really friendly, so that I really enjoyed the early bite, before I headed back into the office.
INNSIDE Dusseldorf Derendorf – Service
Right next to the parking garage entrance, the hotel features a slim, but lovely done sauna and gym area. I really loved to explore the place. Sauna is only driven on demand, obviously.
Apart from that I hit a very busy time at check-in, the staff at INNSIDE Dusseldorf Derendorf was really friendly and welcoming. I did have some issues with the WiFi though. The connection has overall been rather reasonable, but the worst connection was at the most remote point from the access point – the work desk. That has been very unfortunate and lead to the situation that I had to go for tethering in the night.
INNSIDE Dusseldorf Derendorf – My View
Me and staying at a Melia hotel feels like a roller coaster rides. There are few really good ones – but sometimes I feel like dropping really, really deep. INNSIDE Dusseldorf Derendorf has been a very, very good stay to me. Nice staff, excellent connections and good features like the basement gym or the amazing restaurant area. This place is definitely a recommendation when you are looking for a stay in Northern Dusseldorf.
