My February 2022 trip to the United Arab Emirates lead me to the Northern part of the country for the very first time. For example, I visited the highest point of the U.A.E., Jebel Jais. As a basis for my trip, I chose the city of Ras Al Khaimah. There are a couple of Hilton options in the city and I finally chose to have a two night look into the local Hilton Garden Inn. Here is a sum-up of my experience.
Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah – Location
The Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah is located right at the creek of the harbor area. However, there is no major commercial water traffic so that it is really relaxing to walk along the shoreline. You typically arrive at the hotel by car. There are outside parking facilities (see below) for free. The driving distance to Ras Al Khaimah Airport (RAK) is some 22 kilometers. The distance to Dubai Airport (DXB) is roughly 100 kilometers and takes about one hour plus any additional time due to traffic (you should at least account for a total of two hours).
The area is actually really nice. There are some other hotels around, but also some nice shopping and dining options. The hotel’s neighbor is the Al Naeem Mall, the major Manar Mall is not too far away. There are some one-way roads around the hotel, which may be a bit of bothering.
Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah – The Room
I had a two night stay in late February 2022. The refundable rate for a Queen Room with Creek View was 658.43 AED for both nights, which is roughly equivalent to 170 EUR. Breakfast was included in my rate due to my Hilton Honors Diamond status. The room had a nice size and featured two queen beds. I liked the work desk with an universal power outlet.
The shower bathroom was a bit of narrow, but fit for purpose. Especially in that area, I had some housekeeping issues, like missing amenities or towels, which have been removed, but not replaced and similar issues.
Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah – Breakfast & Food
One of the key highlights of staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah was the restaurant. I loved the location overlooking the creek and the pool area. The breakfast itself was very good on the first day. There was a nice range of breakfast items of different cuisines. In contrast to the Dubai regulations, the buffet was a self service one. While I loved the service at the first day, the second day was rude with less refills and rather impolite staff. One waitress finally slammed a sign on my desk while I was eating, clearly claiming that she expects me to leave a Tripadvisor review.
The hotel also features a lovely bar area next to the restaurant. On one evening, I additionally used the in-room dining service. Due to a misunderstanding of the menu, I ordered a bit more food than I actually expected to order. The food was absolutely nice and very reasonably priced. There was also a small kiosk-alike shop in the hotel lobby.
Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah – Service
The partially covered pool area of the Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah is a real beauty. I just had some time there in the morning hours, where there was a really low level of people around. You also have nice seats and sun beds. The gym is right next to the pool area. Similar to the pool, it is a really nice facility and exceeded my expectation for an Hilton Garden Inn hotel.
Overall, the staff was very friendly (apart from the restaurant and housekeeping issues) and the WiFi was fine. Parking, especially when you check in or check out, is a bit of odd, as the parking lots are outside, significantly below reception level. Some locals or frequent guests are allowed or tolerated to park on the road to the lobby area, which is significantly more comfortable.
Hilton Garden Inn Ras Al Khaimah – My View
The Hilton Garden Inn is not a bad one at all. Especially the beautiful pool area, the nice location at the creek / harbor bay and the lovely restaurant location are lovely features. On the other hand, I did have some service issues and the parking is not ideal. The value for money is really good, though.
