Flyctory.com Pros

  • Typical Brett Young sound
  • Overall, good and very fluent listen

Brett Young has been featured quite frequently on Flyctory.com already. However, his last major appearance, my coverage of his November 2022 concert in Cologne, is already quite some ago. After having a deeper listen to the albums Weekends Look A Little Different These Days (2021) and Ticket To L.A. (2018), 2.0 is my third studio album review of him overall. He shared his new album on 20th June 2025.

Brett Young – About The Artist

Brett Charles Young was born on 23rd March 1981 in Anaheim, California. He initially pursued a baseball pitcher career, but after an elbow injury concentrated on music. The country pop singer moved to Nashville in the mid-2010’s. At that time, he had already released quite some music, including a self-titled EP and album. Working with Big Machine, he released another self-titled album in 2017, which peaked second in the US Country Charts and became a platinum release in the USA and Canada. He released three studio albums thereafter, summing up to seven studio albums overall. So far, six Brett Young songs topped the US Country Airplay Charts so far.

Brett Young – 2.0 – Track by Track

The eleven track album lasts 36 minutes.

1. Drink With You

Brett Young plays it safe. Out of the first four songs on his 2.0 album, three ones have been shared beforehand. Drink With You is in the upper mid-tempo range. It does have a nice flow and a good melody. I would love it to be a bit more punchy, though.

2. Kiss To Forget

Out of these three single releases at the beginning of the album, Kiss To Forget was the most successful one on Spotify. I think the song has a better profile than the opener. It is more on the slower side, and thus feels more self-consistent to me. Additionally, it comes with a nice, heartwarming vocal performance. His fans definitely loved Brett Young for this one when he initially shared it in October 2024.

3. Who I Do It For (feat. Lady A)

The first in fact new track on 2.0 comes with a big name as a guest act. Lady A are supporting Brett Young at Who I Do It For. The three minute track starts slow, but then the songs creates a nice presence and energy. The Nashville-origin country trio add a nice energy to this song.

4. Goodnight Into Good Morning

Goodnight Into Good Morning is a nice modern country-pop track with a good rhythm. The stanzas and chorus feel very harmonic and thus generate a good flow. Tonight is feeling like the kinda night that turns goodnight into good morning – the story also sounds like a very positive encounter.

5. That Ain’t Yours

After this section of already familiar listens, Brett Young has quite a bit of new music in stock as well. I really like the fifth track, That Ain’t Yours. It is another nice modern country track. Brett Young often tends to be a bit on the soupy side. This one combines good storytelling with a good level of emotional music delivery.

6. You Don’t Know What You’re Missing (feat. George Birge)

You Don’t Know What You’re Missing is a typical Brett Young-heart-warmer. Former Waterloo Revival member George Birge and some intense fiddle parts are even strengthening your emotional addiction to this listen. The targeted audience will love this one with typical country music romantics.

You’re missing first steps and ball games
Sunday front-porch sitting
You’re missing red wine after bedtime
Spinning Mom around the kitchen
One day the one’s gonna come along
And love is gonna hit you a little different
But until then
You don’t know what you’re missing

7. Full House

You made these four walls feel like home somehow
Full hands, full heart, full house

Half your momma’s and half of mine – Brett Young is praising one of his children in the seventh song, Full House. I feel that this one is one of the best new songs on 2.0. Brett Young is sharing a very personal story in here and put it into lovely music.

8. Tastes Like You

The early February 2025 single Tastes Like You has been Young’s first song release this year. The fans liked it. The rhythmic style is really catching and I really enjoy the smart instrumental usage. Thus, I join the almost two million stream army on Spotify.

9. You Still Got It

2.0 stays slow and presents the ballad You Still Got It. The song is a breakup song. The backing vocals add a lot and turn it into a really nice listen.

And, baby, it’s broken, useless, stepped on, covered in bruises
Girl, I gave you everything I had
If you didn’t want it, why did you take it?
If you didn’t love me, then you shouldn’t have faked it
Now, what you gonna do with a beat-up heart like that?
Yeah, you still got it, and I just want it back

10. Say Less

On my favorite streaming platform, Say Less has been the most successful of all all 2.0 single releases so far. Indeed, the song is a catching listen and still sounds absolutely like a Brett Young one. A really good song.

11. In Case You Didn’t Know 2.0 (feat. Hannah McFarland)

When you think of Brett Young, you inevitably think of In Case You Didn’t Know. The single release of his 2017 album boosted his career. For his 2025 update of the track, Hannah McFarland is supporting him. The song feels even slower than the original to me. The duet-style is perfect for this country ballad anthem – and leads to a lovely, harmonic finale of 2.0.

Favorite Song: Who I Do It For

Brett Young – 2.0 – My View

2.0 is a straight Brett Young album. If you liked him before, you will love this album. I know that some people also struggle to really get into him. In that case, 2.0 won’t help to persuade them. Nonetheless, I feel that 2.0 is one of the stronger Brett Young releases – and thus, he just makes it into the Top Pick! ratings.
