After I skipped last week’s Songs of the Week (and merge the three songs I had for it into this post), here is my first post of 2025, showing you some new songs released this week I enjoyed. Music industry is slowly coming back from Christmas time, so that I feel it is definitely worth having a look into the first new songs of the year.
Joya Marleen – Difficult
My Song of the Week this week is from Switzerland. The 21 year old Joya Marleen from St. Gallen released this nice pop track this week. It is a teaser for her debut album The wind is picking up, which will be released in two weeks. End of January 2025, she will also kick off a tour through Switzerland and Germany,
Ilka Groenewold – Elektrisiert
The East Frisia-born schlager artist Ilka Groenewold is indeed a multi-talented entertainer. She is also a TV host and even gained some reputation in athletics. Since 2023, she is also doing schlager – and had quite some success so far. Her new single sounds nice as well.
Yes I’m Very Tired Now feat. Natasha Waters – Adore
Adore is another single release, which features an album to be published in two weeks. The band behind the song indeed is named Yes I’m Very Tired Now The artist behind that is Marc Frischknecht. Another equivalence to my leading song this week: He is Swiss and from St. Gallen as well. Feels to be a good time for music from there.
Tom Twers – Wenigstens versucht
Tom Twers is a German pop artist. He is originally from Frankfurt. His 2023 single Falle Für Dich (“Fall for you”) received a Golden Record in Switzerland and Austria. Let’s see if his new track works out as well.
Phil Siemers – Was wenn doch
Phil Siemers from Hamburg combines pop and soul elements. At Was wenn doch, this leads to a beautifully groovy sound. I really like his new song.
Songs of the Week – 27th December 2024
I just had three songs picked in that week, so I decided to integrate them into this posting.
Johnny Logan – Somebody Like You
Somebody Like You has been part of the live performance portfolio of Johnny Logan before. On 27th December 2024, the Eurovision Song Contest Legend from Ireland also released it as a single. Really good one.
Lifemindzone – Be Strong
Lifemindzone is an indie-pop project from Cologne. This week, the German artist asks us to Keep Fighting, be strong. A really nice mixture of house and dance pop.
Reinhard Mey & Helene Fischer – Wir
The Helene Fischer Show more and more becomes German Christmas tradition. The EV show lead by the German schlager artist (who is singing in German, but still one of the best selling women in music business globally) does many duets in this show. One of them has been with German singer-songwriter legend Reinhard Mey. I loved it.
