  • Versatile and characteristic sound
  • Overall, very entertaining

My Flyctory.com album review year 2025 starts with deathcore from Switzerland. The band Paleface Swiss releases their third studio album Cursed on 3rd January 2025. I had a listen beforehand, here is my review.

Paleface Swiss – About The Artists

Paleface Swiss are a band from Zurich. They have been founded in 2017. Apart from the new drummer Cassiano Cassi Toma (since 2023), they are playing in their founding lineup. The other band members are Marc Zelli Zellweger (vocals), Tommy Lee (bass) and Yannick Lehmann (guitar). After two EPsChapter 1: From The Gallows (2018) and Chapter 2: Witch King (2019), they released their debut album in 2020. It is named Chapter 3: The Last Selection. In 2022, they added their sophomore album Fear & Dagger.

Paleface Swiss – Cursed – Track by Track

The nine track album lasts 29 minutes.

1. un pobre nino murio

The first some 100 seconds are taken by the atmospheric intro. This part of the album is definitely increasing the scare level – just right for a deathcore album. The original is a Canary Islands folk track.

2. Hatred

Right after these rather slow and atmospheric sounds, Paleface Swiss are hammering the riffs from the very beginning. Hatred comes with a nice level of aggression and even a dirty laugh by Zellweger in the beginning of the song.

3. …and with hope you’ll be damned

The third track is opening with a drum section. Overall, the song is a less brutal at the beginning and rather focuses on the vocals. Nonetheless, death metal and deathcore lovers find their favorite spots later. If you make it until this song, you like the genre – and you will enjoy the listen, which especially has some nice instrumental elements towards the end.

4. Don’t you ever stop

At Don’t you ever stop, the guitar is taking over the the some 20 second introduction part, before the band adds more instruments and sounds to an intense atmosphere. After about the same time, Cassi Toma is reminding their bandmates to be harder and the Swiss go for the full force. The song has a slower, groovy style, which creates a dark and deep aura. Finally, there are the screams by Zelli, who kick that songs into the right direction. You don’t have to hammer the drums to have a good metal track – this one is proving it.

5. Enough

The fifth song Enough might surprise, as the vocals are in rap style. As the instruments stay in the background for about half of the song, you might feel being in a rap song. However, with the words Let’s give them what they want, Paleface Swiss massively increase the speed and play their guitar the way they did it most of the album. However, the rap vibes add a special flavor.

6. Youth Decay

While Paleface Swiss took us to the rap scene in the song before, Youth Decay rather reminds of Slipknot and takes you back to the full metal sphere. The song is marching forward and takes some sprints as well, always driven by stomping grounds. Despite the speed and style changes, the song does not feel being confusing and leads to one of the most interesting listens on Cursed.

7. My Blood On Your Hands

My Blood On Your Hands is one of two single releases of Cursed so far. This time, the Swiss go for a vocal intro. The song is rather vocal-centric, which leads to an interesting flavor. With 1:41 minutes, the song is rather short, though. It still is more than an interlude.

8. Love Burns

The penultimate track Love Burns lasts some four minutes. Paleface Swiss underline in here that they can also master more gentle metal genres. In the context of CursedLove Burns almost comes with ballad-esque vibes. Even the rap parts feel more gentle.

9. River Of Sorrows

Finally, the Swiss band kicks you out of Cursed with the 1:45 minute outro River of Sorrows. After the impressing Love Burns, the outro feels a bit of week, reminding of Oriental sounds.

Paleface Swiss – Cursed – My View

Cursed is a very interesting, versatile album. Here and there, like in the last track, it also comes with weaker spots. Overall, though, the album is definitely a good one to bost the fan base of the band from Zurich.

Favorite Song: Youth Decay
