  • Great, down-to-Earth thrash metal
  • Very entertaining and versatile sound
  • Two nice cover versions

Time for some thrash metal on Flyctory.com again: on 25th October 2024, Enforced has released their new EP A Leap Into The Dark. I had the opportunity listening to the album beforehand and share my thoughts with you.

Enforced – About The Artists

Enforced have been founded in Richmond, Virginia, in 2016. The US-American band is a quintet nowadays. Lead singer Knox Colby and guitarist Will Wagstaff are founding members of the band. The three other members are Ethan Gensurowsky (bass), Alex Bishop (drums) and guitarist Josh The Mosh, who joined Enforced in 2024. So far, the band had three album releases. Especially their 2023 one, War Remains, had received really good critics and reputation. It received a 4.2 / 5.0 rating in my review.

Enforced – A Leap Into The Dark – Track by Track

The six track EP lasts 19 minutes.

1. Betting on the End

The opener of the EP, Betting on the End, feels rough, but also straight. The recording has a bit of a basic touch, but this leads to a very charming character. That’s what the audience wants – and Enforced is delivering. The more you listen to the song, the more you love it.

2. A Leap Into The Dark

The first moments of the four minute title track feel gentle, almost easy-going. However, the US-Americans know that this is not the pace expected. When Alex Bishop is hitting the drums harder and faster after some 90 second, Enforced fans are back in their comfort zone and it is time to go with the stomping beat of the song. Cool sound and on-point thrash entertainment.

3. Deafening Heartbeats

There is no slow start at Deafening Heartbeats. The band just gave this song some three minutes – so wasting time is no option, indeed. They push the throttle to the ultra-fast level, but master that challenge easily. Impressing work on the instruments – and band leader Know Colby does it just right to give an enjoyable vocal performance as well.

4. Casket (2024 Remaster)

Does it get any faster? Enforced replies to that with “no problem” and sends out Casket at the beginning of the second half of the release. The guitar speed chase does just last a little less than two minutes – but you somehow feel that the guitar strings have been hit as often as in the remaining songs altogether. Avoid the first rows of an Enforced concert, when they play this one – unless you are really physically able to stand that thrash energy.

5. Deadly Intentions

The EP closes with two cover versions. The first one of them, Deadly Intentions, originally released by Obituary, has already been released as a single before. It almost feels needless to say that the catching underground style continues. The Virginia band is delivering the rough and snotty style in high quality.

6. The Chase is On

The English Dogs are a band from Grantham in the United Kingdom. Enforced is honoring them with a cover on the last song of A Leap Into The DarkThe Chase is On. Fans of the genres will happily smile and rock with the band until the very last second of the EP.

Enforced – A Leap Into The Dark – My View

Wow, this one is compact – but also concentrates a lot of fun. Enforced impress in these six tracks and show high quality, but still somehow simple thrash metal. The EP is a 19 minute collection of a lot of rocking fun.
