Brent Cobb is trying out something new. His 11th July 2025 Ain’t Rocked In A While is the first album he is releasing with his band The Fixin’s. Country music meets rock – let’s have a listen to this release. It is his seventh studio album.

Brent Cobb – About The Artist

Brent Cobb is a US-American country music singer-songwriter, who has released six studio albums so far. He was born on 1st August 1986 in Americus, Georgia. He recorded his debut album No Place Left to Leave (2006) in Los Angeles, but later moved to Nashville. It took ten years to release his sophomore album Shine on Rainy Day. I have featured his releases three times so far, which are his three most recent albums. Namely, they are Keep ’em on They Toes (2020), And Now, Let’s Turn The Page (2022), and Southern Star (2023).

Brent Cobb and the Fixin’s – Ain’t Rocked In A While – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 34 minutes.

1. Beyond Measure

The 90 seconds opener does come with a nice piano melody and some lyrics. Nonetheless, I would rather see it as an intro track.

2. Ain’t Rocked in a While

The title track is the first full length song on the album. Indeed, Ain’t Rocked in a While has a lot what the title is suggests. There is a nice rock guitar sound basis in here, which sometimes sounds a bit too old. The constrast within the song, dealing with some success, feels interesting and somehow make you feel kiced.

3. Bad Feelin’

You simply feel the blues influence in that song. Call it Southern rock or call it blues rock – this one was rather surprisingly good from this perspective.

Black cat in the alley
Blood moon on the rise
Reckon somebody kept a tally
Anytime I ever rolled a pair of dice
Now I got a bad bad feelin’
I ain’t sellin my soul, no…
Lord, the devil don’t mind stealin’

4. Do It All the Time

Do It All the Time has quite some similarity to this version of the song. It does strongly remind me of the previous Bad Feelin’ . This song still sets some slightly accents and is thus an interesting experience.

5. Even if it’s Broke

The fifth track presents a calm, but more more straight rocker. The rough mixing even spreads some alternative rock vibes. Overall, this song feels very modern in the present.

And I keep them same ol’ solid gold
“Got a lotta soul” records spinnin’
I don’t mind takin’ my time
Even I’m the only one listenin’
This here it ain’t no joke
Even if it’s broke
Some things just don’t need fixin’
They just don’t need fixin’

6. In Our Hands

A dreaming atmosphere, which is still a straight rock mus listen – that’s a brief sum-up of In Our Hands. I am still fascinated by the so different new sound of Brent Cobb and his bandmates. You still clearly recognize his country music ancestry. The sixth song comes with a really nice melody as well.

7. Power Man

What would be a better start for a song named Power Man than thumbing drums and energetic riffs? Brent Cobb goes for that in Power Man. The high level of distortion used leads to a more modern feeling. However, this one also has quite something in stock for rockers-in-heart. On the other hand, the song lacks to define a stronger, maybe even easier character.

8. Take Yer Meds

The single release Take Yet Meds is the most agile listen of the album. It mixes country with progressive rock elements. Overall, Brent Cobb takes you to the 1970’s musically in here. Towards the end, the track has some very intense moments.

9. Til Dawn

Especially after the very playful experience before, Til Dawn feels a bit of thin to me. The song feels very repetitive, there is a lack of exciting elements.

10. Beyond Measure (Fixin’s)

The Beyond Measure theme is back. This time, it feels very melodic and hymnic. Bad luck that it is – in line with the album’s beginning – just a short, outro-alike song. The hook has the potential to play a more intense role in here.

I will add the Spotify widget once the album been released.

Brent Cobb and the Fixin’s – Ain’t Rocked In A While – My View

In general, I appreciate Brent Cobb’s excursion to the land of rock music. I feel that the musical quality of Ain’t Rocked In A While is not in line with my expectations. It is solid, but I would have expected more energy in here. Still, a solid listen.
