I typically rather focus presenting new and emerging act in my Song of the Week, but this time, the list of new single releases is headed by one of the most well-known artists in the business. Hope you enjoy the songs, regardless if you enjoy listening to cool rockers or happy pop vibes.
Alice Cooper – I’m Alice
Who the fuck is Alice? Nobody would dare to ask that about Alice Cooper. The Detroit-origin US rock legend did not only release this amazing and ironic track on this week’s Wednesday. He is also teasing a new album, which will be released in late August. Sounds promising.
Saint City Orchestra – Hell Bash
Folk-punk from St. Gallen, Switzerland. Ain’t these guys fun? I definitely would love to give the Saint City Orchestra a deeper listen – unfortunately most of their summer festival tour stops are not too close to Cologne.
Flore – Skeleton
The name (with a Scandinavian O) reads Nordic – but this indie-pop with rocking elements is in fact from Berlin. I love the music of this young German artist. Cool new release.
tillmann – Zeit
Guitarist Thomas Kiemle and drummer Dieter Kandler are tillmann. The band from Bavaria is doing a very own style of German rock-pop. I loved the storytelling and the ease of the song. Good release, indeed.
Tobias Panwitz – When The Giants Are Gone
Just due to the way I am creating this playlist, there are typically quite a lot of acts from Germany. This song by Berlin-based folk singer-songwriter Tobias Panwitz feels rather international and not “typically German”. However, the song has also partially been recorded in Nashville.
Sparkling – We Are Here To Make You Feel
Quite exciting times for the pop band Sparkling. Their new album We Are Here To Make You Feel is about to be released in October – a brief tour is following right thereafter. The tour will close in their home town Cologne. Their style? Some call it electro-post-punk-pop, some other simply indie-rock. I would simply say: listen and enjoy.
Sparklehorse – Evening Star Supercharger
Sparkehorse has been the artist name of US-American singer-songwriter Mark Linkous. However, Linkous committed suicide in 2010. His brother is now releasing some of the songs which has never been released before. Touching story – and an amazing song.
Dennis Lloyd – Oceanside
Dennis Lloyd’s civil name is Nir Tibor. He is an Israeli pop musician. In 2016, his single Nevermind has been a global success with platinum records in fourteen different countries. Oceanside is a new, very catching song by the artist.
Claudia Biltz – Tanzen
Dernnis Lloyd already introduced summer vibes and pop rhythms to the playlist – the perfect first step to add some schlager to my weekly report. Tanzen (“Dancing”) by Claudia Biltz comes with a really nice vibe. A quite new name in the German schlager and pop scene.
Lena – What I Want
I definitely do not need to introduce you to Lena. I recently listed her legendary Satellite to my Favorite Eurovision Songs post. This one is a brand-new tune, which is coming with the typical Lena style.
Michael Lane – Summer Love
Another Michael Lane release, another really good listen. I simply love what the US-German artist is doing. Do I really need to say more? Beautiful summer vibe folk song!
Lazlo x Celine – Beste Falsche Freunde (BFF)
The song is the second collaboration of the two hip hop-pop artists Lazlo and Celine. I loved the vibe and the rhythm of the song. The song (“Best Wrong Friends”) comes with a great chorus. Love it!
