Cory Marks - Sorry For Nothing Vol. 2
Flyctory.com Pros
- Great country rock songs
- Nice variety of tracks
Cory Marks continues his small album series. After releasing the album Sorry for Nothing on 6th December 2024, the sequel of the album follows just some ten months later. On 3rd October 2025, the Canadian is releasing Sorry for Nothing Vol. 2. Here is my review.

Cory Marks – About The Artist
Cory Gerald Joseph Marquardt was born on 11th October 1989. He is originally from North Bay in Ontario, where he also grew up. Hs career initially felt to head into a very different direction. He joined the Royal Military College of Canada, dreamed of a fighter pilot career and played in the university ice hockey team. His aviation life ended up with a private pilot license, which he received in 2021.
At that point in time, Marks had already released two albums, This Man (2015) and Who I Am (2020). The latter had some remarkable success. The album became popular in Canada and Australia. It even had a brief chart appearance in Switzerland. Sorry for Nothing has been his third studio album overall. During the 2025 Country To Country in Berlin, I did not only feature the Canadian on stage (Friday / Saturday coverage), but also had a very good Spotlight interview with him. His music is typically in the country rock sphere, some songs even have hard rock flavor.
Cory Marks – Sorry For Nothing Vol. 2 – Track by Track
The eleven track album lasts 39 minutes.

1. Hangman
Cory plays it safe and starts the album with two songs which have been featured before the album. The first song, Hangman, nicely combines rock in a harder, indie style of bands like Linkin Park with country music elements. The result is a lovely listen for country rock lovers.
2. Are You With Me?
Out of the four tracks which have been released before the album, Are You With Me? has been the most successful one. While Hangman had a stronger hard rock vibe, this one is rather a straight country-rocker. However, Cory Marks songs always feel a bit harder than the one of some Nashville peers. However, his hard rocking heart pops up towards the end of the track.
3. Change The Game
After kicking off with these two tracks, Sorry for Nothing Vol. 2 presents a great country rocker with a hymnic touch. Thus, after the two already released songs, this one feels being very promsing. Thumbs up for Cory!
4. The Heart Breaks When It Wants To
The title of the fourth song already feels like an emotional one. Indeed, The Heart Breaks When It Wants To has strong country ballad attitude. Even though the voices are so different, the style of the song reminds me of Luke Combs. Nice one.
5. Wild Ride
Let’s see whether the title is right again when Cory Marks takes us to a Wild Ride. It is definitely a long ride, as the 5:29 minute song is the longest song of the album. The song strikes with a fast pace driven by the drums, which feels to become even more energetic in the chorus.
6. Someone I Hate
After the long Wild Ride, the sixth song is a comparably brief one. It is also slower than the predecessor, However, this less than three minutes rocker gives an energetic impact to the listener. Nice ocuntry rock times in here so far.
7. Whiskey River
Take me down to Whiskey River – these are the lyrics the seventh is starting with. They also appear multiple times during the full listen. This time Cory Marks surprises with very traditional country music vibes. By the way: despite the strong nostalgic touch of the album, it is not a cover of the famous Willie Nelson sof
8. Empty Bottles
For the four minutes song Empty Bottles, the song stays in not too progressive sphere – even though this one definitely feels significantly more modern again. The song reflects about consuming too much alcohol. An impressing one.
9. Pick Up The Phone
Pick Up The Phone is the ninth song of Sorry For Nothing Vol. 2. The stanzas feel very melancholic, lonely. However, it feels like Cory and his band just waited to the chorus to increase the riffs again.
10. A Different Kind of Year
The record started with two already known tracks – and that’s how it is coming to an end as well. The steel guitar is a key element in this rather straight mainstream country song with a rocking heart. The melody of it is nicely flowing. I really like this one.
11. Sorry For Nothing (Acoustic)
While Cory Marks fans got the original version of the tile track in the first episode of the album series, this one is having the acoustic version of Sorry For Nothing. I really like this slow tempo farewell from this album.
