Looking back to… Weird Al Yankovic at the “Bigger & Weirder Tour” 2025

After I introduced you to Puddles Pity Party in my first Looking back to… posting from Weird Al Yankovic’s Bigger & Weirder Tour 2025, it is time for the main act now. The two shows in Las Vegas, on 20th and 21st June 2025, also meant that I completed my 40th concert of the North American comedy musician. Again, it was a memorable time. First of all, the music means a lot to me – but more than that, it was so lovely to run into my friends from the domestic community again. Here is my reduced concert report, coming with a bunch of Pictured Story size snaps.

Unfortunately, during the first show I was asked not to use my point and shoot camera during Al’s performance (which was fine the second show again…). Thus, there are more limited pictures of the entire show in this post.

About Weird Al Yankovic

Weird Al Yankovic is not just one of my favorite musicians, he is also a Featured Artist of Flyctory.com. The five time Grammy Award winner was born on 23rd October 1959 in Downey in Greater Los Angeles. Even though his most recent album, Mandatory Fun (2014) has been released more than ten years ago, he is very popular as a live artist. Last weekend, he sold out Madison Square Garden in New York City. I extensively covered his 2023 European Tour, including an explicit coverage of his show in Tilburg, Netherlands.

The roots of his work has already been in 1979, when he wrote My Bologna, a parody of My Sharona by the Knack. Even though parodies like Amish Paradise are the core of his work, he is also known for polka cover versions of popular songs. On top of that, some of his originals became popular, e.g. the epic Albuquerque. The song Skipper Dan is another Song of My Life. Yankovic also pops up in movies or contributed to movie sound tracks.

Impressions of the Weird Al’s Bigger & Weirder Tour 2025

The Bigger & Weirder Tour 2025 is an “ordinary” Weird Al Yankovic tour. This means that the parodies have a higher focus, there is a fixed setlist (in contrast to the two The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tours, which had rotating setlists) – and Al and the band make extensive use of costumes fitting to the songs played. Including the encore, a show lasts over two hours featuring over twenty songs. While Yankovic has been working with the same band since 1992, the key innovation is that there are three new band members, Probyn Gregory, Payton Velligan and Monique Donnelly, as well as Scheila Gonzales, which leads to even stronger musical depth.

Fans will love that most of the fan favorites are included. However, the wider band setup also allows to have some songs like Mission Statement, which has never played on stage before, or Ricky (as part of a medley), which was not played until the mid-1980’s. The interaction with the audience is high, also because there is a very strong community among Al and his band. There is one cover song in the set, which is rotating throughout the tour. It started in mid-June in Las Vegas and lasts until 25th September 2025, when the closing show will be in Clearwater, Florida.

Some After-Show Snaps

The shows at the Venetian were very handy to meet band members after the show. A special thanks to Probyn Gregory and Payton Velligan, who I had very lovely chats with.
