The Sheepdogs indeed have a busy year 2024. In August, they released the EP Paradise Alone and recently returned from their US Tour. On 6th November 2024, they are sharing another EP, Hell Together – right before they head on European tour. Here is my review of their release.
The Sheepdogs – About The Artists
The Sheepdogs are a blues rock / Southern rock band from Saskatoon in Canada. Three of the founding members, who formed the band in 2004, are still active. Namely, these are Ewan Currie (lead vocals, guitars), Ryan Gullen (bass) and Sam Corbett (drums, percussion). The two other band members are Ewan’s brother Shamos (keys, trombone) and Ricky Paquette (guitars). Some of the band members also have been successful in side and solo projects.
The band has been especially successful in the early 2010’s, when two of their albums, Learn & Burn (2010) and The Sheepdogs (2012) received a platinum record in their home country. The latter also topped the Canadian charts. In between these releases, the EP Five Easy Pieces (2011) peaked 7th in Canada as well. Overall, The Sheepdogs have released seven studio albums and four EPs so far.
The Sheepdogs – Hell Together – Track by Track
The six track EP lasts 27 minutes.
1. Now or Never
Call it blues rock or Southern rock – Now or Never is warming the heart of the traditional fan of the genre. The opener of the EP sounds so beautifully nostalgic and reminds of the big global players in that business. Strumming guitars, nice contribution from the organ and simply a good groove. This song made me smile for a bit more than three minutes.
2. Handle My Biz
Handle My Biz was released together with the announcement of the EP. The song is a bit slower and less groovy than the opener – but by that it is also defining a really nice flow. Similar to Now or Never, you simply get into the song easily – and you enjoy staying with it. It feels simple and direct – but that’s exactly what turns it into a very charming single release.
3. My Home Is Burning
The blues touch in The Sheepdogs’ music is becoming more present in the third song of Hell Together. The song has a bit more of a melancholic touch as well – what else would you expect when My Home Is Burning? The instruments simply contribute what is necessary to support the story. Laid back, unagitated – and simply a good listen.
4. The Working Man
The fourth track of the EP is about The Working Man. I’m a hard working man, just doing the best I can and I wanna see my baby are taking you into the story of this song. Its style reminds me of Now or Never, which also means that it is a nice mixture of classic Southern rock and beautiful storytelling.
5. Jeroboam
If there is a touch of country music, there needs to be some alcoholic reference as well, doesn’t it? The Sheepdogs ask to bring me a jeroboam and present another song, which is having a nice touch. I am sure it is a nice sing-a-long with the European fans on their upcoming tour.
6. Hell Together
The EP closes with the title track. With some six and a half minutes, the song is also the longest song on this release. Again, The Sheepdogs create a beautiful flow and nice harmonies. The longer duration also allows to showcase the instruments more, like the nice piano and guitar solo in the middle of the track.

The Sheepdogs – Hell Together – My View
The only disappointment about Hell Together is that it is only a set of six songs. The Sheepdogs are so harmonic, nostalgic and by that so heartwarming. I absolutely loved listening to this new episode of their work.
