Before I have just been close to the NH Collection Hamburg City, I knew that this hotel will give me two very memorable nights. I did not know anything about the quality yet (apart from online reviews by other guests), but this place gave me the two nights I had to see the very first Weird Al Yankovic show in Germany. In February 2023, I had the night before and after he played at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. Here are my thoughts whether the hotel was also a special one in regards of quality.

 

NH Collection Hamburg City – Location

NH Collection Hamburg is located just a short walk from the Hamburg Trade Fair. The large city park Planten Un Blomen is just a few steps away as well. However, the hotel is also a nice option if you want to visit the famous Reeperbahn or a soccer match of FC St. Pauli at their Millerntor Stadium.

Regarding public transport, the closest option for guests staying at the NH Collection Hamburg City is Messehallen (which means “Trade Fair Halls”). The station is served by Underground line U2. Alternatively, you can also connect to the Underground U3, which is West of the hotel. The closest national and regional rail station is Hamburg Dammtor, which is about a one kilometer walk away. The hotel is driving its own parking garage.

 

NH Collection Hamburg City – Room

I had a two night stay at the NH Hotel franchise, Wednesday to Friday. The total members price was 290.24 EUR for both nights, including breakfast and taxes. The category I booked was a suite room, due to the comparably low price – also because I had to work during daytime. The room was, as you see, really nice. I especially loved the working area. Regarding it is a hotel room, I also felt that the layout was really nice, having the wardrobe and the work desk at the entrance. The sofa area was really cozy. The sleeping room did not have too many special features apart from a second TV set – it simply got its job nicely done.

The bathroom with a combined shower and bathtub was really nice. Like the whole hotel room, the bathroom at the NH Collection Hamburg City was well maintained and clean. amenities were given in dispensers. A feature I really liked were the branded towels.

 

NH Collection Hamburg City – Breakfast

I feel that the pictures already speak for themselves. Breakfast is one of the key strengths of the NH Collection Hamburg City. The presentation is lovely, the selection was really nice. Egg dishes other than scrambled eggs were made by request. Unfortunately, I just got that from other tables – I have not been offered that kind of a service at all during two mornings. That’s, of course, very unfortunate.

 

NH Collection Hamburg City – Service

The staff at the hotel was really nice. However, especially check-in has been an absolute mess. One of the key drivers for that, though, was that NH Hotel joined the GHA Discovery loyalty program not too long before my stay. Now, I had two one GHA accounts: the one I had anyway, e.g. due to staying at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi – and the one they migrated from NH Hotel’s obsolete program NH Discovery. Even though they tried to somehow merge the information they needed, this also results in that even today, almost half a year after the overnight, there are still neither loyalty points nor nights in my GHA Discovery account. I had similar issues later. However, the nhow Frankfurt I visited in June 2023 was able to handle it (but they also had more time to prepare).

As you see on the pictures above, the hotel also drives a lovely gym with spa. The spa terrace even overlooks Millerntor Stadium and the grounds of the Hamburg city fair, the Hamburger Dom. The WiFi in the hotel was really nice. Aart from the issue at check-in and the request on that after the stay being unsolved, the reception staff was really nice.

 

NH Collection Hamburg City – My View

I had a really good time at the NH Collection Hamburg City. Unfortunately, there were the issues at check-in and breakfast, otherwise, the rating could be even better. With major luggage, there may be more fortunate locations for Hamburg visitors, though – the route from the Underground Station to the hotel is a bit of bothering.
