Avaland is a band and metal opera, which has already presented two chapters of their story. On 30th October 2026, the shared their third part, Chemical Poetry. I was absolutely curious about this release and share my review.

Avaland – About The Artists

Avaland is a French operatic metal band, founded in 2018 in Grenoble. They follow a mixture of power and symphonic metal. The key artist of the band is Adrien G. Gzagg, who is a vocalist, the keyboarder, the orchestrator and composer of the band. Jeff Kanji is also a singer and does additional instrumentations. The other band members are Lucas Martinez (guitar) Camille Souffron (bass) and Leo Mouchonay (drums). Since 2020, the band takes you to a fictional, magical place called Avaland in their album. So far, two albums have been released, namely Theater of Sorcery (April 2021) and The Legend of the Storyteller (March 2023). Avaland are also known for their (rare) immersive and very detailed shows on stage.

Avaland – Chemical Poetry – Track by Track

The twelve song album lasts 64 minutes.

1. When The Night Comes Alive (feat. Tom Englund)

The first six minutes of the album belong to When The Night Comes Alive. Avaland also introduce their first guest musician, Swedish Evergrey singer and guitarist Tom Englund. After the intro, the song starts slowly, but step by step, Avaland take you into their story. More and more, you love the energetic symphonic metal sound. What a lovely and complex write opening the album promisingly.

2. Destiny Calls (feat. Madie)

Another guest musician on the album is Madie. The French vocalist has been leading Nightmare and is part of Faith of Agony. Destiny Calls is her first appearance. The song is much quicker, but thereby does not lack the complexity and beauty of the opener. Working with three vocalists in here leads to a lovely theatrical impression. Here and there, there are even choir sections, which make this single release even more enjoyable.

3. Alchemy

Alchemy starts with a hymnic, brass alike fanfare. Overall, the song feels more melodic, almost pop-esque compared to the predecessor. The song combines a great dramatic plot with a good arrangement and a beautiful flow.

4. Beauties & Beasts (feat. Tom Englund)

Regardless if you like the groovy and partially big band style of Beauty & Beats or not – you just cannot deny that Beauties & Beasts adds a new flavor to the almost. The foundation is the same: excellent arrangements and songwriting. You simply enjoy this special part of the third Avaland episode.

5. To Fool A Witch (feat. Helle Bohdanova)

To Fool A Witch introduces another guest musician, Helle from the Ukrainian melodic metal band IGNEA. The sound gets rougher and heavier again, but the melodic and symphonic character of the album stays on. Despite the song is rather short, just a bit longer than four minutes, it has a really nice plot with different sections and styles.

6. Fate (feat. Madie)

Madie is back for the sixth song, Fate. The intro feels quite spherical, but the guitars are taking over the lead quickly. Fate increases the speed significantly, the hammering beat controls the six minute track. The choir elements are a cool part of this one.

7. Ascension

In this record full of comparably long tracks, there is also time for this short vocal episode. Ascension is a 43 second track, where the melodic side is limited to the piano.

8. Sail On

Another already released single of Chemical Poetry is its eighth song, Sail On. Marching elements, melancholic episodes and powerful choir sections lead to a very versatile listen. When Avalon have their live show on 5th December 2026 in Grenoble on 5th December 2026, I am sure the fans will sing along to parts of this one with pride.

9. Face The Eternal (feat. Helle Bohdanova & Joost van den Broek)

Regarding the additional artist cast of the records, we are still not done yet. Face The Eternal features Durch Joost van den Broek, who is especially known as a metal producer. Helle is also part of this song, mainly the growl part. The song has a nice flow, but I feel that other tracks have a stronger character.

10. Trinity (feat. Marcela Bovio & Helle Bohdanova)

Trinity is truly special. The song is way over twelve minutes. Avaland also introduce their last guest musician on this album. Marcela Bovio is a singer and violinist from Mexico. There is so much variety in this song, from vocal driven parts to rocking sections. You simply don’t count the time until the track is over. There is rather some disappointment that this masterpiece is fading after a fifth of an hour.

11. Fallen Leaves (feat. Tom Englund)

After this highlight, Chemical Poetry is on its final straight. However, this means that two five minute tracks are still missing. The first one is Fallen Leaves. Avaland and Tom Englund present one of their most hymnic and impressing songs of the album. It is simply not over yet.

12. Faded Away

The single release Faded Away is closing the album. Even though the song is slightly more gentle, there is no lack of beautiful and complex songwriting in here. The instrumentalists also have their final opportunity to present themselves. The smile I had at the beginning of the album stays on until its very end.

Avaland – Chemical Poetry – My View

If you are able to write a song like Trinity, your album just cannot be too bad. Chemical Poetry is definitely on the very top of the musical spectrum. The level of detail, the love of presenting elements, writing plots, but also the instrumental and vocal excellence is impressing. I am sure that this one is an album you can listen to again and again and discover new things you simply have to love.

Favorite Song: Trinity
