Staying in Gothenburg for one night to handle the Pixbo IBK vs. Malmö FFC Floorball Women SSL match, I had one night in December 2023 the Western Swedish city. My original plan was to kick off my way home using the Swedish X2000 high speed train, so that I went for a rail station hotel close to Gothenburg Central Station. First Hotel G came with an ideal location and a fair price. Unfortunately, all X2000 train had to be cancelled due to potential technical issues. This made me leave Gothenburg even earlier – and the the location of the hotel even more valuable.

First Hotel G – Location

Regarding the traffic situation, First Hotel G is really ideal. It is located within the terminal building of Göteborg Central, the central station. Unfortunately, the entrance to the hotel is outside the building, you take an escalator up to reception level. The building is also connected to to Gothenburg Nils Ericson Terminal, the central bus and coach terminal, which is featuring national connections, but also coach services to Gothenburg Landvetter Airport (GOT), for example. Right outside the hotel, there are also numerous tram and local bus service connections featured at Nordstan station.

Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden so that the train station provides several services like stores and basic restaurants, which might be very handy for your stay. However, only the regional traffic company has a customer booth where you can buy tickets – national rail tickets have to be bought at vending machines or online. From the hotel, you have a lot of sights and facilities in walking distance. The most prominent is likely Nordstan. The beautiful shopping mall includes a nice variety of stores, including a supermarket and a liqueur store.

First Hotel G – Room

I had a one night stay at the First Hotel G Gothenburg. The Queen Room rate, refundable, was 1256 SEK, roughly 112 EUR. I booked the hotel room via booking.com, which also handled the payment. The room had a reasonable style and felt rather basic. I did not like that some furniture, especially the work desk had quite some marks. On the other hand, the room was quite ideal for my trip: apart from the good location, I had a large desk, which allowed me to work on the floorball pictures.

The shower bathroom followed a rather Scandinavian style as well. The room was very functional, though, and the Rituals amenities was a really nice feature as well. Something I did not like, though is that the toilet brush was mounted right next to the toilet paper roll and the spare toilet paper roll – that’s just not too hygienic. Apart from that unlucky design feature, the room was very clean.

First Hotel G – Breakfast

Breakfast is served in and around the restaurant next to the hotel. The hotel offered a really nice and wide range of breakfast items, including wam dishes. The quality of the items was very nice as well. I also enjoyed the presentation of the food and drinks (all self service). The breakfast room feels to come with a very reasonable size as well.

First Hotel G – Service

The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. I could also check in before check in time. They do have a luggage storage room, which might mean that you have to store very valuable goods (e.g. my camera equipment) in the lockers in the train station (which is a short walk only. WiFi in my room worked very fine as well. On the sides of the rooms, the hotel offers a gym and sauna area, which at least feels to be prepared for spa treatments as well.

First Hotel G – My View

The hotel was a perfect fit for my needs. I was especially happy with the gym and sauna area and the breakfast. Bad luck that the room felt a bit of run down and the weird bathroom design does have an impact on the rating as well.
