Logan Mize / Tim Hicks (23rd November 2025, Hamburg)

Right after my floorball coverage in Finland, I headed to Hamburg for a very special country music event. As their show in Cologne clashed with the Handball World Championships (where I felt having Faroe Islands duties…), I decided to go for that show of the No Bad Days Tour. Logan Mize and Tim Hicks played their first show in Germany on that tour at the Monkeys Music Club, presented by Sound of Nashville. Here is my concert report.

Monkeys Music Club – About The Venue

The Monkeys Music Club is a 350 people capacity venue in the Hamburg borough of Ottensen. It is rather close to the railway tracks leading to Hamburg-Altona station. It is located at the Barnerstraße, the same street where the Fabrik is located. While it was my first concert at this venue, I had a Home Free show at the Fabrik in September 2023. You can either walk to the train station (some ten minutes) or use the bus stop Fabrik, which is connecting to it. The walking distance to Altona station (which also features national high speed rail connections as well as car trains) as well as to Ottensen (S-Bahn commuter rail only) is some ten minutes each.

 

Logan Mize / Tim Hicks – About The Artists

Logan Mize is a US-American country artist, who was born on 7th May 1985 in Clearwater, Kansas. He is active as a musician since 2000. In 2009, he released his seld-titled debut album. In 2021, I reviewed two Logan Mize albums, Still That Kid and Welcome To Prarieville. In 2022, I also listened to the EP Prairie Tapes, Vol. 1. Furthermore, I featured a Logan Mize show in Cologne in 2019. Before that, he was part of a Sound of Nashville Press Event. The 2024 album Her Heartland is his most recent album.

My history with Tim Hicks is significantly shorter, unfortunately. The Canadian country singer was the headliner of the second day of the Sound of Nashville Open Air 2024 in Cologne. He was born on 22nd August 1979 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and became a professional artist in 2012. So far, he has released five studio albums (some with additional deluxe versions), the latest being Talk To Time in 2022. Like Mize, he is frequently featured in my Country Music Playlists. His song I Miss Tom Petty was one of my Country Songs of the Year 2024.

 

Logan Mize / Tim Hicks – The Show

Logan Mize kicked off the evening right on schedule at 19:00. He stated that is 62 minute show was majorly based on the song requests by the fans beforehand. Thus, one of his first tracks was George Strait Songs, followed by the title track of the corresponding album, Welcome to Prairieville (2021). At the fifth song, Better off gone, Hamburg started to sing along with Mize more actively. The next one was Grew apart. Mize stated that he typically performs this one with the piano, but it worked out fine with the guitar as well. Another fan request was I Need Mike. Whenever Mize talked about US beer, he called it horsepiss. The show also featured some earlier tracks, like El Camino, which was released in 2015. His set closed with Only in this Town and Can’t get Away from a Good Time.

Tim Hicks stepped on stage at 20:25, accompanied by his guitar player. His set was about the same duration, starting with songs like No Truck Song or Slow. Soon thereafter, he did his country-rock version of Heart of Gold, originally performed by Neil Young. He also presented a new song, She rides away. His set started getting to its end when Hamburg partied with his Stronger Beer. However, one of the highlights of the show was the very last song. Both artists perfomed Free Fallin’ by Tom Petty together – which was a simply wonderful performance.

Logan Mize / Tim Hicks – My View

Two songwriters with a very different signature lead to a great evening. I especially loved having Logan Mize back on German stages after six minutes. Tim Hicks went more for the rocking side of the genre. I absolutely loved the atmosphere in Hamburg, even though the Monkey’s limited light.
