ibis Styles time in Switzerland: while the previous review of the Accor brand I shared with you has been the ibis Styles Zurich City Center, this review is from the Swiss capital, Bern. After visiting the Floorball Champions Cup matches in mid September by SV Wiler-Ersigen and Floorball Köniz Bern, I had a night at the ibis Styles Bern City. Especially due to a very competitive rate, I was really curious about the stay.
Ibis Styles Bern City – Location
The hotel is located Southwest of the city center, the main station and the majority of the key attractions. The area around the hotel is quite nice. There are several restaurants and a supermarket in walking distance.
The traffic connections of the hotel are striking. There are two options to get around. Tram line 6 operates from Brunnhof (less than five minutes walk) and connects to the main station as well as to the old town and some of the Bern museums around Helvetiaplatz. Line 6 also connects to Mobiliar Arena in Gümligen, which was a key argument for my choice. The public transport stop Eigerplatz is about two minutes away from the hotel, Tram line 3 as well as bus 10 connect to the main station, from where you can easily commute. . If you arrive by car, the ibis Styles Bern City also drives its down parking garage.
Ibis Styles Bern City – Room
My trip was on a non-public rate, which was really kind compared to other hotels in Central Bern. The room I booked was a superior one, including breakfast for a Saturday to Sunday night in September 2023. My room was in the fourth floor of the hotel. It is compact, but absolutely fine, at least for a single traveler or a couple without too much luggage. Right behind the door, there is a sliding door, which either closes the toilet or the bathroom. The room as such is compact, but has some kind of drawer on one side as well as a rack for your suitcase. There is no work desk as such, but a work desk plate, which you can put up at the wall. It is comparably spacious and works very well. As this area also features Swiss and European power outlets, it is quite handy. The chair did not work for me, but it was easy to move the bed in a way that I could work from there.
The bathroom is compact, but overall nicely equipped. I had to put my toiletries in the drawer next to the bed, but this was fine. Basic amenities are offered in dispensers. The room was spotless and had a limited view through the window.
Ibis Styles Bern City – Breakfast / Food
Despite I visited the breakfast area at peak time (some pictures have been taken later), the service felt very organized. The variety was nice, a decent variety and a good presentation. There were different areas, which required some orientation, but also lead to a less concentrated and more relaxed atmosphere.
The hotel also offers a “snack” menu with simple dishes like pasta, pizza and similar items. I had ravioli for lunch. They likely have been warmed up in a microwave oven or similar, but were overall really tasty and regarding Swiss restaurant prices a really nice deal.
Ibis Styles Bern City – Service
The staff in the hotel was very friendly and attentive. There is a gym in the basement of the hotel. Unfortunately, I could not open it with my room key – you might have to register for it or similar. The WiFi in the hotel worked very well. When you download the Welcome Bern app, you receive free public transport in Central Bern for the duration of your stay. The hotel gave me a small bear-shaped cake at check-in, which I really liked. A really nice feature of the hotel is that you can get a glass bottle, which you can refill with water from dispensers on each floor (you can, however, also drink Swiss tap water…)
Ibis Styles Bern City – My View
The ibis Styles Bern City is really a nice choice when it comes to a city stay in the Swiss capital. The location might not look ideal if you check out the hotel on the map, but the public transport connection is great. On top of that, the service was really lovely. The rooms are on the compact side, though.
