In my 27th March 2026 Songs of the Week, I featured Eva Under Fire the first time. At that time, they released Villainous, a recording with Maria Brink of In This Moment. The song is also the title track of their third studio album overall. Eva Under Fire share it on 10th July 2026. Here is my review.

Eva Under Fire – About The Artists

Eva Under Fire is an US American alternative metal and hard rock band formed around singer Amanda Eva Marie Lyberg. They are originally from Detroit, where the band formed in 2015. The other band members are Rob Lyberg, Chris Slapnik (both guitars), Ed Gawlik (bass) and drummer Dave Miller II. So far, they have released two albums, Anchors (2015) and Love, Drugs & Misery (2022). The latter album also featured one of their most successful songs, Blow. There is a solo version of the track as well a recording with Spencer Charnas of Nine Inch Nails.

Eva Under Fire – Villainous – Track by Track

The thirteen song album lasts 42 minutes.

1. Awakening

Not only literally, Villainous starts with an Awakening. The opener is comes with energy, is easy to grasp and has a lovely leverage of metal power and melodic elements. Not only because fans already had a listen to this song before album, quickly crawls into your mind and pleases your metallic heart.

2. My Own Name

My Own Name is a nice illustration for the strengths of Eva Under Fire in 2026. On the one hand, there are good melodic parts, which are a treat for hard rock and classic rock fans. Nonetheless, there are more electronic elements and harder riffs, which add force and make the song feel modern. Finally, these three minutes have something in stock for any listener in the harder rock sphere.

3. Survive My Scars

Dark guitar riffs drive Survive My Scars at the very beginning. The song feels deep and intense. However, the melodic style of the chorus eases this again. Again, the blending of different elements keeps the song itself interesting. On top of that, it does have an own character and own ideas, so that the album does not feel monotonous.

4. Villainous (feat. Maria Brink)

It lasts less than three minutes, but Villainois is truly the engine of this album. The additional vocals by Maria, the multi-facetted style of the song and the quick transitions between different elements lead to a song, which stays in your mind.

5. The Words You Say

The Words You Say has been the last amuse bouche, before Eva Under Fire shares the whole Villainous meal. The song feels agile and comes with some elements, but feels weaker in the album context than it did as an individual single release – the predecessor is simply too striking.

6. Don’t Say I’m Ok

Don’t Say I’m Ok introduces its theme right at the beginning. It feels very catching at the beginning, but finally takes a bit too long to connect to the energy in the chorus again. That’s a shame. The chorus is a bummer and works perfectly with Lyberg’s voice. Later the song has a short break-out to harder metal moods.

7. Hello Hollow

The next song is Hello Hollow. The rhythmic part and the guitars feel to take a great symbiosis in here. They perfectly lead into the chorus, which is one of the finest on this Eva Under Fire album. Thus, the song is definitely one of the highlights of the previously unreleased ones.

8. Dark Soul

The songs on Villainous are comparably short. Metal fans tend to like epic tracks, but these quick changes also lead to more versatility and a more dynamic listen. The song is a bit slower. Therefor, the instruments are a bit more in the background giving some additional space for the vocal section. Eva Marie makes nice use of that in this track. By the way, with 3:49 minutes, it is the longest one of the album.

9. Gasoline

With Gasoline, the album already steps into its last third. The song feels modern and has a nice punch. The song is a typical modern metal song, which has a slightly darker signature. Again, the song has a strong focus on the chorus.

10. Murder Scene

The last previously released song of the album is the 2:48 minute long Murder Scene. The song has a deep style, almost has a touch of psychedelic melancholy. Nonetheless, it does not leave a that strong impact on my side.

11. Safe Word

Eva Under Fire go for a slower start with a brief instrumental intro and a comparably gentle beginning in here. Safe Word keeps that modern rock and metal side, but stays on the softer side of the album. The key driver for a rather dynamic listen is the nice performance of the band’s female lead singer.

12. Teeth

Eva Under Fire aim at the fashion and beauty industry in the penultimate song. The song is rather short, but crisp and sharp. A good track with a clear and strong message leads to an enjoyable experience.

13. A Violent End

Indeed, A Violent End leads to forceful finale of Villainois. Eva’s bandmates play the guitars a bit rougher and harder again. You might not bang you head too fast, but the more you do it with force. And here and there, there is a good chance for a sing along. A wise choice to close the 2026 book of new songs by the US Americans.

Eva Under Fire – Villainous – My View

Yeah, not all shots on Villainous are a perfect snipe. There are even some slight misses. Nonetheless, I had fun with the new Eva Under Fire album. There are some nice, dynamic listens and some gems like Hello Hollow or the title track. Thus, it is overall a really nice experience.

Favorite Song: Hello Hollow
